NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University invites alumni to return to its Newberg, Ore., campus for the school’s annual homecoming event Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6.

This year’s celebration will again include affinity reunions, a football game and a Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Something different this year will be the unveiling of a new Alumni Plaza, a space located between the school’s Bauman Auditorium/Ross Center and Stoffer Family Stadium dedicated to celebrating school spirit and the legacy of George Fox alumni. Included in the space will be a 10-foot bronze grizzly bear that embodies the “fearless and strong spirit of Bruins, past and present, who stand together,” according to Sarah Reid, the university’s director of affinity marketing.

The plaza unveiling will take place from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 6. It will be followed by a tailgate party, featuring the music of Hit Machine, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the nearby Bauman Auditorium parking lot, then a football game with Northwest Conference rival Whitworth at 1:30 p.m. Those alumni members who visit the alumni tent prior to kickoff will receive a complimentary T-shirt that gains them and their families free admission into the game.

The weekend will also include a Classic Bruins Supper Friday at 5 p.m.; a music concert on Friday at 7:30 p.m.; reunions for the classes of 2008 and 1998, as well as “Classic Bruins” (1968 and earlier); an Alumni of Color Networking Reception Saturday at 9 a.m.; a Sports Hall of Fame reception Saturday at 11:45 a.m.; tours of the newly opened Hadlock Student Center; “art focus” and regular campus tours; a baseball alumni scrimmage Saturday at 11 a.m.; and a Sunday men’s soccer game against Pacific at noon.

Saturday’s Sports Hall of Fame event in the Edwards-Holman Science Center will recognize 2018 inductees Phaydra (Newport) Brown (cross country, class of 1994), Katy Campbell (women’s basketball, class of 2008), Ben Dillow (track and field, class of 2007), Mike Livingston (football, class of 1967), Joel Krebs (track and field, class of 2008), Ralph Beebe (men’s basketball coach), the 1995 men’s soccer team, and Brad and Katharine Stoffer (meritorious).

The university is keeping homecoming simple this year: No registration is required except for a couple of limited-capacity events.
