{"id":397,"date":"2018-04-06T04:19:32","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T04:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/history\/?page_id=397"},"modified":"2018-04-11T06:15:34","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T06:15:34","slug":"past-clubs-1976-2016","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/history\/clubs\/past-clubs-1976-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Past Clubs: 1976-2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*No new clubs were added between 1976 and 1978*<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1979<\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KGFC radio &#8211; allowed students to practice different methods of public communication<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">turns into local FM station)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minority Student Union &#8211; held by those of different race or nationality to teach others about their culture and traditions<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Married Students Association &#8211; challenged those who were married and going to school to focus on their personal lives and places in marriage<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>1981<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Film Society &#8211; responsible for putting on films shown on campus<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>1985<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education Club &#8211; the main goal of this club is to keep in contact with all Education Majors and to tell them about education in Oregon State as well as in our school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Home Ec. Club &#8211; making students aware of home economics, includes fashion shows, sewing, cooking, and providing care packages to other students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student Psychological Association &#8211; sharing the awareness of psychology to other students. Integrates Christianity and psychology helping students find careers after college. <\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>1986<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Croquet Club &#8211; a group of students dedicated to playing croquet together\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seattle Seahawks Booster Club &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GFC Album Project &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>1988<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ski Club &#8211; a club for people who like to ski<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Home Ec changed their\u00a0name to The Student Home Economics Association)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving Images Society &#8211; this club teaches about advances in telecommunication to help\u00a0students find jobs and learning more about the future of telecommunication. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education Club &#8211; provided students with up-to-date information about teaching opportunities<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">1994<\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young Republicans &#8211; a political organization for students\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rock Climbing Club- traveled to rock climbing gym in Beaverton<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philosophy Club &#8211;\u00a0Sophilo provides a venue for philosophers to open their internal dialog into a conversation in which we explore the nature of love, knowledge and our own ethical responsibility<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Hess Creek Surf Club<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Club &#8211; got together to study and increase student\u2019s interests in the business program<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Volleyball Club<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>1999<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dance Team &#8211; dance club that performs for homecoming and sporting events\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bruin Hosts &#8211; a team that worked at sports events to sell tickets and hand out programs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Art Club &#8211; practicing different types of art and learning the techniques of different time periods<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2000<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darkroom &#8211; photograph school events on film<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Little Bruins &#8211; develop relationships with elementary\/middle school students in Newberg<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urban Services &#8211; spend Friday nights in Portland hanging out with the homeless (praying, feeding, getting to know them)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Class Reps &#8211; this club ut on events (games nights, etc) for their respective classes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supreme Court &#8211; handles ASC jobs, the constitutionality of ASC, runs elections, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ELITE &#8211; \u00a0empowering leaders of integrity through experience: goes to conferences and workshops to provide students with opportunities <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Service-Leadership House &#8211; do service projects around campus<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2001<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outdoor Club &#8211; outdoor activities including rock climbing and hiking<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Umm\u2026 Umm.. Good &#8211; based on students from the art club, they have a social get together and make food and play games together. <\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2002<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social Work Club &#8211; provides social work majors with learning opportunities in the field and possible internship opportunities, organize volunteer trips<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snowboarding Club &#8211; provides students with the opportunities for snowboarding and fellowship (Bible studies)<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2003<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psychology Club &#8211;\u00a0unites psychology majors and minors, facilities closer relationships with peers and their faculty and connects with the broader George Fox community<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swing Club &#8211;\u00a0This club gives beginning swing dancers lessons and gives students opportunities to improve their skills through regular meetings and extra dancing events<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meditation Club &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2004<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bed and Breakfast Club &#8211; dedicated to providing prospective students with a great experience as they visit George Fox, giving them a place to stay and good food<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2006<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emergency Relief Club &#8211; started to help hurricane victims recover from disaster. They helped GFU get involved with relief efforts such as fundraising, and sending gifts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acting on AIDS &#8211; this club focused on raising awareness of AIDS and spent time praying for the crisis<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ASME &#8211; American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a club for mechanical engineers, connects students with field experience and work opportunities<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accounting Club &#8211; provides students with work opportunities so they are equipped for the workforce<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2009<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bruin Heritage Society &#8211; keeping the current student body connected to its history<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several different Books Club<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2010<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skate Team &#8211; This ministry went down to the local skate park to show people that Christians aren\u2019t all \u201cstiff\u201d and \u201cboring\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2013<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hawaiian Club &#8211; \u00a0embodies the spirit of &#8220;aloha&#8221; by establishing a warm and supportive environment and providing an opportunity to learn about different cultures through means of social interactions<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latino Heritage Club &#8211; there exists a union of friendship, diversity, and culture. Students from Latino and non-Latino backgrounds exchange cross-cultural dialog and perspectives as well as engage in a shared student community<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quaere Verum &#8211; exists to seek truth as a community through conversation<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Club &#8211; This club provides the students of George Fox University the opportunity to personal, hands-on experience with entrepreneurial applications<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social Work Club &#8211; gives professional and mentoring activities to social work majors as well as social activities which will establish bonds within and between the cohorts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nursing Club &#8211; provides members with an opportunity to identify with their nursing profession and to foster intellectual, educational, spiritual and social activities related to professional nursing<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IJM &#8211; International Justice Mission, a club centered around awareness about women in bondage around the world because of sex-trafficking<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>2014<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mu Kappa &#8211; Mu Kappa is a club for missionary kids and third culture kids where they can express their culture with each other and teach others about their life experiences<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashion Club &#8211; a club where students can celebrate culture as an art form and way of life.
