While a small portion of this ends up recycled, most of it winds up in the landfill, where it will stay for hundreds of years and never completely decompose.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of &#8220;reduce, reuse, recycle,&#8221; the Arts &amp; Crafts Club and Stewards of Sustainability Club are hosting an upcycling event, where we will have a few crafts to create art out of old materials! We will gather from <strong>11 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/strong> on <strong>Saturday, March 9<\/strong>, in Brougher. Projects will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transforming old plastic packaging into functional wallets, pencil pouches and jewelry<\/li>\n<li>Turning plastic grocery bags into yarn for knitting\/crocheting<\/li>\n<li>Using wood scraps to build a bug hotel for the Stewards of Sustainability Club&#8217;s garden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are interested in this event, please sign up <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/fCiTqxdA5WteTHWp7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and start collecting (clean) plastic trash to bring!<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to reach out to Lilly McAfee at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:lmcafee19@georgefox.edu\">lmcafee19@georgefox.edu<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With everyday essentials like grocery bags, food\/drink wrappers, Ziplock baggies, and packaging, we go through a lot of plastic each day!
