{"id":69145,"date":"2020-02-17T09:25:26","date_gmt":"2020-02-17T17:25:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=69145"},"modified":"2020-02-17T09:25:27","modified_gmt":"2020-02-17T17:25:27","slug":"about-our-people-254","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2020\/02\/17\/about-our-people-254\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Anderson Campbell<\/strong> (Christian Studies) published an article on prayer and the Be Known promise in the February 2020 issue of <em>Didaktikos: Journal of Theological Education<\/em>. <em>Didaktikos<\/em> is a peer-reviewed journal written by professors, for professors, who teach in biblical, theological, and related disciplines and who help train pastors and other ministry leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nijay Gupta<\/strong> (Seminary) collaborated with eight masters-level students to publish a free book, <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.georgefox.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1000&amp;context=monographs\"><em>Shall Be Bright at Last: Reflections on Suffering and Hope in the Letters of Paul<\/em><\/a>, on the university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Digital Commons network. In it, Nijay and his students write sermon-style reflections on suffering and hope in Paul. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We all share difficult life stories and we lean towards hope, even though we cannot always see the silver lining,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Nijay says of the book. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The church has a hard time talking about suffering and pain. I hope this book will help to broach this subject.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Anderson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/strong> (Christian Studies) essay,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The John, Jesus, and History Project and a Fourth Quest for Jesus,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was published in\u00c2\u00a0<em>Jesus, Skepticism, and the Problem of History: Criteria and Context in the Study of Christian Origins<\/em>, and his essay \u00e2\u20ac\u0153On Truth &amp; Recognition,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was published in the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shepherdheartconsulting.com\/2019\/02\/06\/shepherd-heart-newsletter-archives\/\"><em>Shepherd Heart Newsletter<\/em><\/a>. Paul also organized a\u00c2\u00a0consultation on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Values of Transformative Spirituality\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (Joseph Clair presenting) and presented two papers in San Diego in November: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcLittle Children, Stay Away from Idols!\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Last Word as the First Word in the Johannine Situation: 1 John 5:21 and the Roman Imperial Cult,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Jesus Traditions, Gospels, and Negotiating the Roman Imperial World Section of SBL; and\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Inspiring Readings of the Inspired Text \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Taking the Bible Personally, After the Manner of Friends,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Quaker Theological Discussion Group. He also co-organized the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Call to Ministry Conference \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Answering God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Call\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at Clackamas Park Friends Church in October and preached at Rosedale Friends Church in January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (Writer in Residence\/English Emeritus) published three poems recently. His \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Side by Each\u00e2\u20ac\u009d piece appeared in the Feb. 13 issue of the literary magazine\u00c2\u00a0<em>Nightingale &amp; Sparrow<\/em>, and his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Tohono O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122odham: The Desert People\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0was published in the Feb. 11 issue of <em>Line Rider Press<\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0an online poetry magazine.
