The article provides an overview of significant historical\ninfluences affecting American Indian education and identifies encouraging\nemerging trends in American Indian education in the Northwest. Specific\nexamples of encouraging trends in increased tribal involvement observed in\nfederal Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and Northwest public school districts\nare provided. Examples include educational partnerships with the Navajo Nation\nas well as Northwest tribes such as the Lummi Nation, Spokane Indian Tribe,\nConfederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm\nSprings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George Fox employee <strong>Paul Fodge<\/strong> (Mathematics) is featured in an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A Custom Adaptive Tandem Trike,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that appears in <em>Recumbent &amp; Tandem Rider<\/em> magazine (#64). The piece, written by engineering adjunct professor <strong>Nick Gilbert<\/strong>, details how the university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s servant engineering program undertook a project to build a custom wheelchair tandem bicycle to allow Fodge and his granddaughter to go for rides together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An article in the fall issue of <em>Advance<\/em>, the magazine of the Council for Christian Colleges &amp; Universities, highlights what George Fox is doing to address food insecurity on campus. In the piece, titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153More Than Just a Meal,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Bruin Community Pantry is featured, along with insight on the subject from <strong>Jere Witherspoon<\/strong> (Student Life).
