All are invited to the 2019 Spring Faculty Lecture tonight (Tuesday<\/strong>) at 6 p.m.<\/strong> in Hoover 105. 
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nijay K.Gupta’s<\/strong> lecture, “People of Faith: Why the First Christians Called Themselves ‘Believers,'” will focus on why followers of Jesus adopted the label \u00e2\u20ac\u0153believers\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in reference to their identity, and even referred to their religion as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the faith.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d What significance did this pose for them?\u00c2\u00a0Was it primarily about \u00e2\u20ac\u0153beliefs,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or something more? Gupta will explore these important historical questions and also address the relevance this discussion has for Christian identity today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gupta is the recipient of the 2017-18 Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research and Scholarship and an associate professor of New Testament at Portland Seminary.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come between 5 <\/strong>and 6 p.m.<\/strong> and check out the work of our Richter Student Scholars and Steinfeldt Peace Scholars at a symposium in the Hoover lobby. Students will present their research and peace projects in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
