In it, Guadalupe tackles the hidden history of the United States and its first mass deportation event that swept up hundreds of thousands of Mexican American citizens during the Great Depression.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Rawson<\/strong> (College of Business) recently published his book, <em>Prelude to Genocide: Arusha, Rwanda, and the Failure of Diplomacy<\/em>. Rawson, a former U.S. ambassador to Rwanda, was an active participant in the peace talks in the early 1990s and gathered his own materials from those years for the benefit of future historians. David will present his collection of primary sources from the Rwandan genocide, civil war and peace talks on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Special Collections Room on the second floor of the Murdock Library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justine Haigh<\/strong> (College of Business) made a presentation, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153An entrepreneurial training model for a workplace that is becoming increasingly neurodiverse,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Region 7 Fall Conference in Hawaii in October.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Annette Nemetz<\/strong> (College of Business) presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Chinese Entrepreneurship and Cross Cultural Management: An innovative summer program developed to engage Chinese students in learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, innovation and cross-cultural management\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Region 7 Fall Conference in Hawaii in October. She also had a paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Methods for Teaching Ethics and CSR,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d presented at the Marketing Management Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Fall Educators Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico in September. Annette also recently returned from Chongqing, China, where she was a visiting scholar at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. While in China, she presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Global Strategic Imperative of Sustainable Development Thinking for Business Model Planning\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Entrepreneurship Industry Conference: Xi\u00e2\u20ac\u2122an International Innovation Ecosystem Forum, in Xi\u00e2\u20ac\u2122an, China.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chengping Zhang<\/strong> (College of Business) presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Equipping Students with Advanced Excel Skills in the Classroom \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Building Flexible, Robust, and Self-Adaptive Financial Models&#8221; at the Financial Education Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s annual conference this fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jim Steele<\/strong> (College of Business) presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Navigating the New China\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Northwest HR Management Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fall conference in Portland in October.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Southworth<\/strong> (College of Business) had a journal article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153U.S. consumers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 perception of Asian brands\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cultural authenticity and its impact on perceived quality, trust, and patronage intention,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d published in the most recent edition of the <em>Journal of International Consumer Marketing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Shelton<\/strong> (College of Business) made a presentation, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Virtual teams and cohorts: Group potency in virtual teams,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Research Conference last summer in Grenada, Spain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennie Harrop<\/strong> (DPS), <strong>Rae Casey<\/strong> (DPS), <strong>Carol Hutchinson<\/strong> (DPS) and <strong>Michelle Shelton<\/strong> (DPS) offered a discussion, titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ensuring Excellence: Training, Mentoring, &amp; Affirming Adjunct Faculty in Degree Completion Programs,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) 2018 International Conference in Cleveland Nov. 13-16. The four discussed the importance of proper training and affirmation of adjunct faculty in order to ensure consistency, rigor and excellence. George Fox\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s degree completion team relies on more than 50 adjunct faculty, so the department formed an Adjunct Faculty Management Team in early 2016 that developed a multi-module online training course, systematized regular observations, and launched a mentorship program \u00e2\u20ac\u201c all with only a handful of full-time faculty available to help.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron Clark<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0(Seminary) presented two papers at the national American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature meeting in Denver Nov. 16-20. The first, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Lucan Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus: Wondering How to Respond to My Neighbors in Portland, Oregon,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0was presented in the &#8220;Poverty and the Ancient World&#8221; session, while a second, &#8220;Sweeping the Strangers and Outsiders in Your City: Luke&#8217;s Rich Man, Lazarus, Boundaries, and Houseless Humans in Portland,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0was presented in the &#8220;Practical Theology&#8221; session. In addition, his book\u00c2\u00a0<em>Freeing the Oppressed: A Call to Christians Concerning Domestic Abuse<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u201c formerly used as a textbook at Portland Seminary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will be translated into Russian in January of 2019 to be used with Russian-speaking advocates, clergy and law enforcement in Portland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (English Faculty Emeritus) published a poem, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153after solstice,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on the Raw Dog Press site this month. The site began publishing postcard poetry in 1972 and will be including Ed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s piece on postcards. Ed also published a micro-flash piece,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153From This Distance,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Dec. 3, 2018, online edition of <em>Microfiction Monday Magazine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jillian Sokso<\/strong> (Art and Design) is included in a group exhibition,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Stellar Small Prints 2,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d curated by Karen Kunc, on view from Dec. 1 through Jan. 26 at Constellation Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition, she was recently accepted into the 2019-21\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Traveling Member&#8217;s Exhibition\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0of the Southern Graphics Council International, juried by Jane Hammond.
