In this semester&#8217;s diversity forum, <strong>Melanie Springer Mock<\/strong>, professor of English, considers the source of these messages about gender, and why they can be so damaging, especially to young people seeking their vocations.<\/p>\n<p>Join us at the\u00c2\u00a0forum on\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Monday, Nov. 12,<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0from<strong>\u00c2\u00a06 to 7:30 p.m.<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0in\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Stevens 209<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Melanie believes that evangelical culture&#8217;s focus on gender, sex and &#8220;biblical manhood and womanhood,&#8221; often premised on a misguided interpretation of Scripture, makes it especially difficult for women and men to live in the freedom and grace Jesus offers them.<\/p>\n<p>The diversity forum will provide ample space to consider Christian messaging about gender; to ask questions about what it means for women and men to be created in God&#8217;s image; and to think together about how we can create a different world where our lives are not defined by gender roles or even gender identity, but by our own unique callings and gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Questions?
