Mott.\u00c2\u00a0The project&#8217;s working title is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153World Christianity&#8217;s Emissary: John R. Mott and the Creation of a Global Church.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Terry<\/strong> (Visual Arts) published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153On Pottery,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in Christians In the Visual Arts&#8217; journal, <em>SEEN<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0Under the broader theme of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153practice,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d his article discusses the key role of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153incarnational prayer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of makers in culture care. Mark is also currently exhibiting his work at a show, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Of Sticks and Stones,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d along with <strong>Kathleen Jones<\/strong> (Library), at the Art Elements Gallery in Newberg. The exhibition features the final work fired at the\u00c2\u00a0Noble Hill Anagama, the kiln that was both the center of Mark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s work and a site for creative inquiry since 2001.\u00c2\u00a0It features a series of both fully ceramic and mixed media compositions that speak into the idea of transition \u00e2\u20ac\u201c monuments to time and place, as well as works that evoke both whimsy and mystery. Kathleen\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s woodland-inspired paintings and Mark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ceramic works share natural themes and speak the language of shared history and design elements. The exhibit is on display through March 3 at 604 E. 1st St.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephanie Fisher<\/strong> <strong>Matthew<\/strong> (Nursing), <strong>Eloise Hockett<\/strong> (Nursing) and <strong>Linda Samek<\/strong> (Provost) recently published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Learning Cultural Humility Through Stories and Global Service-Learning,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the <em>Journal of Christian Nursing<\/em>. The piece is based on their ongoing service trips to Western Kenya with George Fox nursing students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Randy Woodley<\/strong> (Seminary) has been busy of late. In the last three months, he served as keynote speaker and workshop leader for the United Methodist \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Why Water Matters\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Summit in Minneapolis-St. Paul; hosted a daylong workshop at Eloheh Farm in Newberg for 30 Intervarsity Christian Fellowship national urban leaders; was interviewed on podcasts by theologian Thomas J. Oord (on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Love of God&#8221;) and public theologian Doug Pagitt (on Randy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s book <em>The Harmony Tree<\/em>); presented at the Portland Architect\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Salon on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Indigenous Values and Light and Darkness in Biophillic Design&#8221;; hosted at Eloheh Farm a tour and workshop on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Spirituality and Ethic of the Land&#8221; for 25 delegates from the Society for Christian Ethics (joint program with Society for Muslim Ethics and Society for Jewish Ethics); presented on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Climate Change&#8221; with eco-theologian and ethicist Larry Rasmussen at The Society for Christian Ethics; presented to the Mt. Hood Cherokees in Portland \u00e2\u20ac\u0153My Journey with Evan Jones and Jesse Bushyhead, Cherokee Missionaries;\u00e2\u20ac\u009d participated in the 12th annual Drum Majors for Justice Ecumenical Service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Vancouver Avenue Baptist Church in Portland; and wrote a piece, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The World from a Porch Swing,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d featured on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evangelicalsforsocialaction.org\/creation-care\/world-porch-swing\/\">Evangelical for Social Action magazine\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (Emeritus, English Department) published his poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You Can Tell\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Jan. 8 issue of <em>The Pangolin Review<\/em>, a bimonthly literary publication based in the Indian Ocean island nation\u00c2\u00a0of Mauritius. In addition, two of his visual poems, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153tabula rasa\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bad Day,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as well as his poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Homonyms,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d were posted in Issue 2 (January 2018) of the surrealist art\/poetry magazine <em>Angry Old Man: A Magazine of Experimental Art &amp; Poetry<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Sherwood<\/strong> (Christian Studies) preached at Northside Community Church on Jan. 20 on the topic \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Life of the Trinity.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Also, from Jan 26-28, he spoke at Lake Grove Presbyterian (Lake Oswego) High School\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s winter retreat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebecca T. Valdovinos<\/strong> (English Language Institute) has been selected from the 12,000 TESOL members representing 160 countries \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and more than 100 worldwide affiliates \u00e2\u20ac\u201c as one of 10 TESOL International Association reviewers for the Commission for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages Inc. (TESOL) is an independent professional organization established in 1966.
