{"id":50903,"date":"2018-02-14T15:46:31","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T23:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=50903"},"modified":"2018-02-07T09:53:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T17:53:08","slug":"university-cambridge-professor-speaks-annual-dalton-lecture-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2018\/02\/14\/university-cambridge-professor-speaks-annual-dalton-lecture-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Cambridge professor speaks at annual Dalton Lecture next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Department of Biology and Chemistry invites you to join us for the eighth annual Dalton Lecture on <strong>Thursday, Feb. 22<\/strong>, at <strong>6:30 p.m.<\/strong> in Bauman Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Simon Conway Morris, a professor at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of St. John\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s College, will speak on the topic of evolutionary palaeobiology along with the question of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Inevitable Humans in a Lonely Universe?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>In the presentation, Morris will discuss the implication of all species (including humans) are historical accidents that will find no direct counterpart whilst pointing to the Fermi Paradox and how this raises alarming possibilities. He will also give a scientific talk at 3 p.m. on Feb. 22 in Wood-Mar Auditorium entitled, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our earliest ancestors: Cambrian deuterostomes or just weird wonders?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Morris was elected to the Royal Society in 1990, and his principal academic interests are in the Cambrian \u00e2\u20ac\u0153explosion.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He has traveled widely and received many awards.
