{"id":50668,"date":"2018-01-15T11:44:16","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T19:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=50668"},"modified":"2018-01-12T11:44:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T19:44:23","slug":"about-our-people-212","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2018\/01\/15\/about-our-people-212\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Mark McMinn<\/strong> (PsyD) was honored in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2018\/january-february\/christianity-todays-2018-book-awards.html\">Christianity Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 2018 Book Awards<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c those books the publication deems \u00e2\u20ac\u0153most likely to shape evangelical life, thought and culture.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mark was honored for his book <em>The Science of Virtue<\/em>, which received an Award of Merit in the Spiritual Formation category.\u00c2\u00a0 In the book, he argues that positive psychology can be thought of as the contemporary science of virtue and shows how the basic tenets of this movement \u00e2\u20ac\u201c gratitude, wisdom, humility, forgiveness, grace and hope \u00e2\u20ac\u201c could shape more relevant and effective ministry for pastors and counselors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebecca Hernandez<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0(\u00e2\u20ac\u2039Academic Affairs\u00e2\u20ac\u2039),\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Jenny Elsey<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0(Intercultural Life) and\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Valdovinos<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0(English Language Institute) contributed to the book\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/store.acupressbooks.com\/products\/diversity-matters\"><em>Diversity Matters: Race, Ethnicity, and the Future of Christian Higher Education<\/em><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(Abilene Christian University Press). Hernandez served as a co-editor, and she and Valdovinos wrote chapters, while Elsey wrote a section of a chapter. The book addresses the need for institutions to have meaningful conversations about race and ethnicity and offers leaders a roadmap as they think through how their campuses can serve all students well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong> (Emeritus, English Department) poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Santa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Stuck\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was reprinted in a holiday anthology, <em>Weihnachtsmarkt: A Danse Macabre Holiday Anthology<\/em>, in December.<br \/>\nIn addition, his poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153affair\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was published online on the literary site Turn A Page Or Two (Dec. 31, 2017).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicole M. Enzinger<\/strong> (School of Education) published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Base-ten block challenge,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in\u00c2\u00a0<em>Teaching Children Mathematics<\/em>, with colleagues Barbara Swartz (McDaniel College) and Sararose Lynch (Westminster College). The article highlights a mathematical challenge for teachers to share with their students, offers a space for teachers to share their experiences with implementing the task, and facilitates use of &#8220;complex instruction&#8221; as a tool for promoting equity in mathematics teaching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Anderson<\/strong> (Christian studies) presented papers at the Boston meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Quaker Theological Discussion Group: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Paul, the Philippians, and Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy \u00e2\u20ac\u201c A Cognitive-Critical Biblical Analysis,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Primitive Christianity Revived \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Original Quaker Vision.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He also published\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Identity and Congruence \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Ethics of Integrity in the Johannine Epistles\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in\u00c2\u00a0<em>Biblical Ethics and Application: Purview, Validity, and Relevance of Biblical Texts in Ethical Discourse<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0(Mohr\/Siebeck), and published\u00c2\u00a0Ernst K\u00c3\u00a4semann\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s monograph,\u00c2\u00a0<em>The Testament of Jesus<\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0with a new introduction, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153John 17 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Original Intention of Jesus for the Church,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as Volume 6 in the\u00c2\u00a0<em>Johannine Monograph Series<\/em> (Wipf &amp; Stock). His tributes to John Punshon include\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Formative Spirituality of John Punshon \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 1935-2017\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (<em>Quaker Studies<\/em>\u00c2\u00a022) and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Remembering John Punshon (1935-2017), Distinguished Alumnus of Brasenose College (B.A. 1957) and the Oxford Honours School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (M.A. 1959)\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (<em>Brazen Notes &amp; News<\/em>, Oxford University).
