Starting Monday, Jan. 11, we will be making a few changes in both the Bruin Den and Villa Cafe, reflecting our continued desire to be more environmentally sensitive on campus.<\/p>\n
Our first change will be to replace the clear plastic cups and lids typically used for smoothies and other iced drinks with ones produced with PLA, a corn-based biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources such as corn starch. PLA stands for “polylactic acid.”<\/p>\n
Secondly, we will replace our clear plastic take-out containers with Bio-Plus EARTH take-out boxes. They are endorsed by the Green Restaurant Association because they are made from 100 percent recycled paperboard using a minimum of 35 percent or more post-consumer recycled paper content. We will start offering them for both hot foods and the salad bar option for those who want a take-out container.<\/p>\n
Both of these products are fully compostible for those who actively participate in a composting program. If you have any questions regarding these items, please don’t hesitate to let us know.<\/p>\n
