{"id":47620,"date":"2017-09-18T13:59:02","date_gmt":"2017-09-18T21:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=47620"},"modified":"2017-09-18T14:00:29","modified_gmt":"2017-09-18T22:00:29","slug":"about-our-people-206","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2017\/09\/18\/about-our-people-206\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several university employees are serving on the board and associated journal of the International Christian Community of Teacher Educators (ICCTE), a faith-based teacher educators organization. <strong>Scot Headley<\/strong> is a founding member and provides invaluable support to the journal; <strong>Josiah Philipsen<\/strong> is the webmaster for ICCTE-J; <strong>Linda Samek<\/strong> serves as treasurer; and <strong>Jennie Harrop<\/strong>, <strong>Tom Buchanan<\/strong> and <strong>Susanna Thornhill<\/strong> serve as the editorial team for <em>ICCTE-J<\/em>. As a peer-reviewed journal, <em>ICCTE-J<\/em> publishes two issues annually in order to promote scholarly exchanges supported by a Christian worldview.\u00c2\u00a0The\u00c2\u00a0fall issue\u00c2\u00a0launched in September 2017.\u00c2\u00a0 The\u00c2\u00a0ICCTE conference\u00c2\u00a0happens biennially and will be hosted in 2018 at Abilene Christian University May 22-25.\u00c2\u00a0Contact any member of the editorial team for more information on this vibrant community; the journal is always looking for submissions and peer review partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Randy Woodley<\/strong> (Seminary) wrote a chapter, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Poor and Poverty in North American Indigenous Traditions,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc-clio.com\/ABC-CLIOCorporate\/product.aspx?pc=A5084C\"><em>Poverty and the Poor in the World\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Religious Tradition: Religious Responses to the Problem of Poverty<\/em><\/a> (editors William H. Brackney and Rupen Das), published by Praeger in June. Randy also presented a session, titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Embracing Ethnic Diversity and Learning from Indigenous Communities,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for The Global Church Project\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"https:\/\/theglobalchurchproject.com\/video\/healing-humanity\/\">Healing Our Broken Humanity: A Seven-Part Film Series on Race, Justice and Reconciliation<\/a>. Finally, Randy was one of 10 architects of a document, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Declaration on Christian Faith and White Supremacy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d released last week on a national platform with signatories such as Walter Brueggemann, Jim Wallis, Lisa Sharon Harper, Shane Claiborne, David Gushee and <strong>MaryKate Morse<\/strong> (Seminary). The statement was developed by concerned Christians after the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, and modeled after the famous Barman Declaration drafted by theologians such as Karl Barth and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who felt the church needed to take a stand against the nationalistic movement that became Nazism. In the same spirit concerning a nationalistic movement in America concerning White Supremacy, a number of theologians, scholars and activists came together to draft \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Declaration,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which has now been signed by more than 2,000 Christians in its first week. People may read &#8220;The Declaration&#8221; and the call to Act, and sign, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedeclaration.net\">thedeclaration.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tim Tsohantaridis<\/strong> (Christian Studies) teamed with John S. Knox to write a book, <em>God in the Details: A Biblical Survey of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures<\/em> (Kendall-Hunt Publishers). The book presents the story of the Bible\u00c2\u00a0in a systematic, yet straightforward manner. Readers are introduced to a broad investigation of the Hebrew and Greek scriptures (including writings from the intertestamental period), providing the highlights of each book in the Bible as well as historical and cultural details to mesh out the stories and to provide depth of understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamie Johnson<\/strong> (Spiritual Life, College of Christian Studies)\u00c2\u00a0had a book review published in the <em>CCCU\u00c2\u00a0Advance<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0Spring 2017 issue: &#8220;Sanctity in the Ordinary: A Review of\u00c2\u00a0Liturgy of the Ordinary\u00c2\u00a0by Tish Harrison Warren.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Anderson<\/strong> preached at Reedwood Friends Church (Sept. 17) on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Abiding in Christ and Being Friends of Jesus,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and he represented George Fox at the internment memorial service for John Punshon (former visiting professor of Quaker Studies, 1990) in London (Aug. 12).\u00c2\u00a0Paul also presented the following papers:\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153From One Inclusive Quest to Another \u00e2\u20ac\u201d A Tribute to Marvin W. Meyer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (Chapman University, Los Angeles, May 2017); \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Quaker Presidents We Have Known, Or Thought We Did \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Hoover and Nixon,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Friends Association for Higher Education (Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina, June 2017); \u00e2\u20ac\u0153John Among the Gospels: A Bi-Optic Hypothesis\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Spirituality of Jesus: An Inclusive Quest\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (Stellenbosch University, South Africa, August 2017); and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A Bi-Optic Hypothesis: An Inclusive Theory of Gospel Relations,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas\u00c2\u00a0(University of Pretoria, South Africa, August 2017).\u00c2\u00a0Paul also wrote a new foreword for\u00c2\u00a0<em>The Prophet-King<\/em>, by Wayne A.
