Kathy Heininge<\/strong> (English) gave two presentations at the annual American Conference for Irish Studies West meeting in Montana Oct. 23-26. The first was titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Emma Donoghue’s Manipulation of Genre\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and the second was part of a roundtable discussion between senior scholars and upcoming scholars called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Why I Chose Irish Studies.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Debra Worden<\/strong> (Business) coauthored an article, with Diane Schooley of Boise State University, that was recently published in the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning<\/em>, the leading publication of the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. The article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Perceived and Realized Risk Tolerance: Changes During the 2008 Financial Crisis,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d examines the belief that the recent financial crisis caused households to become less tolerant of financial risk, and thus modify the composition of their portfolios.<\/p>\n

Gary Buhler<\/strong> (Art) is showing his urban landscape paintings at Warner Pacific College in Portland through Friday, Nov. 18. Visit the exhibit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily in the college\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Egtvedt Hall (Room 203). The school is located at 2219 S.E. 68th Ave., in Portland.<\/p>\n

Don Powers<\/strong> (Biology) was awarded honorable mention recognition for his hummingbird research by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Powers was among those nominated for the Trust\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award at the 2016 Murdock College Science Research Conference in Spokane, Wash., Nov. 4.<\/p>\n

Ed Higgins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong> (English) flash fiction story,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Strawberry Daiquiris And A Hot Summer Night,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0was reprinted in the Oct. 12, 2016, issue of the literary magazine The Drunken Llama<\/em>. It was first published in 2014 in\u00c2\u00a0Flash Fiction Magazine<\/em>. Also, two of his senryu poems,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153the careless plumber\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153leftover haiku,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d are in\u00c2\u00a0Failed Haiku: A Journal of English Senryu<\/em> (Issue 11, Nov. 5, 2016).<\/p>\n

Rick Muthiah<\/strong> (Director of Learning Support Services) led a session, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Field Experience Policies and Practices for Students with Disabilities,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the fall conference of the Oregon Association of Higher Education and Disability (ORAHEAD) in Newport, Ore., Nov. 2-4.<\/p>\n

Paul Anderson<\/strong> (Christian studies) published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Compassionate Concern \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Seeing Truth in the Face of the Other,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a> in the Nov. 3 edition of the Huffington Post. Paul was also the featured speaker at the Genealogical Society of Washington County\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s monthly meeting in Hillsboro on Nov. 12, speaking about Quaker founders of American ideals and culture. Specifically, he traced the influence of William Penn and early Quaker governors of the colonies upon the ethos of American democracy and society.<\/p>\n

Brian Snider<\/strong> (Computer Science) published and presented a paper titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Classification of Respiratory Effort and Disordered Breathing during Sleep from Audio and Pulse Oximetry Signals\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the 41st IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2016) in Shanghai, China, earlier this year.\u00c2\u00a0 In conjunction with this, he also received a $500 National Science Foundation travel grant for the conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
