{"id":40696,"date":"2016-10-03T13:58:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-03T21:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=40696"},"modified":"2016-10-03T13:58:49","modified_gmt":"2016-10-03T21:58:49","slug":"about-our-people-187","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2016\/10\/03\/about-our-people-187\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The university recognized <strong>Gina Braden<\/strong> (Physical Therapy) and <strong>Kristie DeHaven<\/strong> (IDEA Center) as its Support Staff Employee of the Year and Administrator of the Year for the 2015-16 academic year, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jenny Elsey<\/strong> (Intercultural Life) made a presentation, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Addressing Campus Climate: Student Life Programming and Leveraging Institutional Assets,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 2016 Diversity Conference in New York, N.Y., in September. The presentation was highlighted under the conference category of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pedagogy and Practice.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The conference, hosted by the CCCU Diversity and Inclusion Commission, chaired by <strong>Rebecca Hernandez<\/strong> (Associate VP of Intercultural Engagement &amp; Faculty Development), reached a record number of attendees and provided space to address difficult questions and issues that arise in creating an inclusive community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebekah Hanson<\/strong> (Music) recorded and released a musical album, <em>Unfolded<\/em>, with her orchestral rock band, The Cabin Project (June, 2016). Rebekah wrote and recorded vocal and string parts with the band over the past two years. The Cabin Project has toured throughout the United States and played in many festivals, including SXSW, Seattle&#8217;s Folklife and The Denver Underground Music Showcase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (English) published the poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Grunion Fishing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Sept. 28, 2016, edition of the <em>Peacock Journal<\/em>, an online literary magazine that celebrates beauty. The poem is accompanied by Ed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s short creative nonfiction piece \u00e2\u20ac\u0153on Beauty.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Otto<\/strong> (History) led a webinar on wampum for the <a href=\"http:\/\/americainclass.org\/webinars\/\">America in Class<\/a> program sponsored by the National Humanities Center.
