{"id":38903,"date":"2016-06-06T15:14:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T23:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=38903"},"modified":"2016-06-06T15:14:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-06T23:14:04","slug":"about-our-people-181","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2016\/06\/06\/about-our-people-181\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the 2016-17 Leadership Development Initiative cohort include the following individuals: administrators <strong>Danae Allen<\/strong>, <strong>Dwayne Astleford<\/strong>, <strong>Ryan Backman<\/strong>, <strong>Grant Burns<\/strong>, <strong>Tiona Cage<\/strong>, <strong>Megan Janes<\/strong>, <strong>Darla Norgren<\/strong>, <strong>Chris Pulver<\/strong>, <strong>John Regier<\/strong>, <strong>Darby Thiessen<\/strong> and <strong>Jane Wilson<\/strong>; staff members <strong>Jesse Dillow<\/strong> and <strong>Joel Schutter<\/strong>; and faculty <strong>Rae Casey<\/strong>, <strong>Brent Weaver<\/strong> and <strong>Donna Webb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greg Allen<\/strong> (Adult Degree Programs), in his role as part of the inaugural Applied Information Management Board of Directors at the University of Oregon, will speak as a panelist to about 2,500 CIOs at the Premier CIO Forum this October in Portland.\u00c2\u00a0 He will speak on the topic \u00e2\u20ac\u015310 keys for Successful Leaders.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The opportunity to speak came from alumni recommendations and connections from other boards Greg serves on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Otto<\/strong> (History) gave the commencement address at Providence Christian College in Pasadena, Calif., where his daughter graduated, on May 7. The title of his address was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Building in God&#8217;s Kingdom: Architects, Builders, and Fixers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Paul was also recently appointed coeditor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brill.com\/cn\/journal-early-american-history\"><em>Journal of Early American History<\/em><\/a>, published by Brill Press.<\/p>\n<p>The third volume of the Friends Association for Higher Education \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Quakers and the Disciplines\u00e2\u20ac\u009d series has been published, and George Fox professors are featured prominently in the publication, titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Quakers-Literature-Disciplines-3\/dp\/099600338X\/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1462379516&amp;sr=1-11&amp;keywords=quakers+and+literature\">Quakers and Literature<\/a>. <strong>Paul Anderson<\/strong> (Christian Studies) serves as the series editor, and English professors <strong>Bill Jolliff<\/strong> and <strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> are featured as authors. Jolliff\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s essay, titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Practice of Writing: A Quaker Poet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Perspective,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d grew out of his keynote address at the FAHE conference. Ed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s essay was titled, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Going Naked as a Sign: Quaker Utopianism and the Alien Other in Joan Slonczewski\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s A Door Into Ocean.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong> (English) poem, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Mermaid Tale,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was featured in the April 2016 edition of <em>poeticdiversity: the litzine of Los Angeles<\/em>. He also published a flash fiction story, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Henny Penny on Why She Crossed the Road,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the British quarterly <em>Tigershark Magazine<\/em> (Issue 10, May 12, 2016).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Anderson<\/strong> (Christian studies) presented a paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Why the Gospel of John is Fundamental to Jesus Research,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Princeton-Prague Symposium on the Historical Jesus at Princeton Theological Seminary in March. George Fox graduates at Princeton Theological Seminary and Yale Divinity School attended the session, which focused on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Illustrating How to Use the Gospel of John in Jesus Research.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d In addition, Paul\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s television interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ebEcHKlciR4\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Salt &amp; Light,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a> on David Gibson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s book <em>Finding Jesus<\/em>, recently aired in Toronto. Paul also preached at the Scottsdale First Baptist Church in March and has spoken at four churches in Oregon recently, displaying <em>The Saint John\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Bible<\/em> and speaking on biblical themes. Finally, Paul organized a public event this spring at the Chehalem Cultural Center, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Not in the Name of My Religion!,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in which he and Harris Zafar challenged the yoking of Christianity and Islam to violence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cherice Bock\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/strong> (Seminary) paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Climatologists, Theologians, &amp; Prophets: Toward an Ecotheology of Critical Hope,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d appeared in the May 2016 issue of the journal <em>Cross Currents<\/em>, and she presented a poster on the topic at Harvard Divinity School\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Spirit of Sustainable Agriculture Conference.
