Jones<\/strong> (Department of Communication, Journalism and Cinematic Arts) has been invited by <em>Communication Currents<\/em>, a publication of the National Communication Association, to write an essay on the role of audience analysis in presidential speeches. The essay is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153translation\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of a previous article Kevin published on a similar topic, but <em>Communication Currents<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 target audience is the general public. The essay will be released June 1. Kevin also presented his paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Didn&#8217;t Know That I Didn&#8217;t Know: At-Risk Student Self-Assessment of Communication Skill Deficiencies,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Northwest Communication Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s annual conference in Coeur D&#8217;Alene, Idaho, April 16-18. Kevin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s paper is the first in a series of essays he is publishing as part of his ongoing longitudinal study on at-risk middle and high school students and communication skill deficiencies. At the conference, Kevin was elected second vice-president and will take over as president of the organization in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Also attending the conference with Kevin was department chair <strong>Steve Classen<\/strong> and nine undergraduate students who presented competitive papers: <strong>Zach Baker<\/strong>, <strong>LaQuae Aughtman<\/strong>, <strong>Ellen Dahlberg<\/strong>, <strong>Elaine Wu<\/strong>, <strong>Adella Boanca<\/strong>, <strong>Bethany Widdicombe<\/strong>, <strong>Dakota Buhler<\/strong>, <strong>Brittany Hurlbut<\/strong> and <strong>Kelsey Vaughn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Three of <strong>Ed Higgins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong> (English) flash fiction stories \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Taking it Easy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153When Mice Listen\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Genesis Serpent\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Skin Found\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c were published in the April 19 issue of the online journal <em>Upender<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nate Peach<\/strong> and <strong>Tom Head<\/strong> (Economics) joined with three students \u00e2\u20ac\u201c <strong>Grace Friberg<\/strong>, <strong>Emma Newman<\/strong> and <strong>Victoria Freitag<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c to present at the Western Social Science Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 57th annual conference in Portland on April 11. The topic of the group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presentation was Adam Smith&#8217;s thoughts on human behavior. The event was a culmination of an informal book club that met throughout the semester. After the presentation a professor in the audience complimented the George Fox students, saying, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You had more insightful things to say than many of my colleagues.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The event was a four-day scholarly conference that drew academics from all over the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melanie Springer Mock<\/strong> (English) published an article, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/women\/2015\/march\/build-families-not-baby-boxes.html\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Build Families, Not Baby Boxes: Adoption is Far More Complicated than a Drop-Off,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a> on <em>Christianity Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/em> website in March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kevin T.
