{"id":25642,"date":"2014-06-09T07:44:33","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T15:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=25642"},"modified":"2014-06-09T07:46:20","modified_gmt":"2014-06-09T15:46:20","slug":"about-our-people-141","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2014\/06\/09\/about-our-people-141\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Paul Otto<\/strong> (History) published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Christian, Providential, and Ecclesiastical: Graphic Christian Perspectives on History,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Winter\/Spring 2014 issue of <em>Fides et Historia<\/em>, a semi-annual peer-reviewed academic journal that concerns the intersection of Christian faith and historical inquiry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Pothoff<\/strong> (Student Life) presented and facilitated a dialogue titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Transgenderism Roundtable Discussion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Association for Christians in Student Development\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (ACSD) annual conference at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., June 2-5. The presentation focused on how institutions are responding to transgender students and how campuses are engaging in the dialogue and also shared emerging best practices. <strong>Rick Muthiah<\/strong> (IDEA Center) and Mark also presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve Fallen and I Can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Get Up: Institutional Approaches to Reach Struggling Students,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a workshop that focused on identification and intervention of students who are at risk and ways to help students thrive intellectually, spiritually, socially and emotionally.<\/p>\n<p>On his second Fulbright Specialist Visit to Radboud University of Nijmegen (Netherlands), <strong>Paul Anderson<\/strong> (Christian Studies) recently presented the lectures \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Spirituality of Jesus,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Johannine Situation\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He also presented a paper in Groningen, the Netherlands, at the European Association for the Study of Religion on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Expansive Parabolic Construction from Jesus to John and Luke\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and presented lectures at the University of Mainz (Germany) on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153From Crisis to Christ: A Contextual Introduction to the New Testament,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Metaphors and Parables in Bi-Optic Perspective\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Contextual Issues in Corinth.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d His book, <em>Following Jesus: The Heart of Faith and Practice<\/em>, received four reviews in the latest issue of <em>Quaker Religious Thought<\/em>, to which Paul contributed a response. Paul also contributed a review of <em>The Oxford Handbook of Quaker Studies<\/em> in that same issue. Finally, Paul was quoted by Ruth Haley Barton, author and founder of the Transforming Center, in her article \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pursuing God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Will Together: When the Resurrected Christ Leads His Church,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d published on the Transforming Center\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong> (English) poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Icarus\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is in the 2014 spring issue of <em>shufPoetry<\/em>, a biannual Southern California-based journal of experimental poetry and mixed media. In addition, he published his poems \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Young Couple in the Stairwell I Passed on My Way to Teaching Medieval World Literature Class,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Poetry Lesson\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Noon Campus\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Spring 2014 issue of <em>Oregon English Journal<\/em>.
