It is a depiction of the Morrison Bridge on-ramp just off Nato Parkway in downtown Portland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melanie Springer Mock<\/strong> (English) published an article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/women\/2013\/november\/real-complexities-of-simple-life.html?start=1\">The Real Complexities of the Simple Life<\/a>,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the Nov. 4 online edition of <em>Christianity Today<\/em>. It is primarily a review of Shirley Showalter&#8217;s memoir, <em>Blush<\/em>, but also an explanation of the ways an evangelical commodification of Anabaptism (mostly through Amish kitsch, Amish and Mennonite romance novels, and the like) has misrepresented the most important theological tenets of Anabaptism, including nonresistance and nonconformity. Showalter&#8217;s <em>Blush<\/em> provides a more authentic portrayal of Anabaptism because those doctrines are foundational to her faith journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lori DeKruyf<\/strong> (Graduate Counseling) attended and co-presented with masters in school counseling students Andrea Parra and Dixie Lee at the Oregon School Counseling Association Conference in Bend Oct. 11-12. Their presentation was titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ethical and Legal Issues Booster Session for Professional School Counselors.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong> Keith Dempsey<\/strong> and <strong>Lori DeKruyf<\/strong> (Graduate Counseling) attended and presented at the national conference of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision in Denver Oct. 17-20. Lori\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presentations were titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Educational Leader and Mental Health Professional: Training for a Balanced School Counselor Identity\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Equity Imperative: School Counselor Educators, Common Core State Standards, and College and Career Readiness.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Keith\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presentation was titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What is Your Membership Grade? Assessing Your Effectiveness as a Counselor Education Faculty Mentor from Underrepresented Populations.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Howard Macy<\/strong> (Professor Emeritus, Religion) has a chapter, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Quakers and Scripture,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the newly released <em>The Oxford Handbook of Quaker Studies<\/em>. <strong>Arthur O. Roberts<\/strong> (Professor at Large) also has a chapter in the same volume, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Evangelical Quakers, 1887-2010.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark McLeod-Harrison<\/strong> (Religious Studies) published the book <em>Incarnations of the Heart<\/em> through Wipf and Stock Publishers. The book is a collection of poems and creative nonfiction essays that portray the beauty, truth and mystery of the communion of the saints. Drawn largely from the author&#8217;s life, the scenes presented and reflected point us not just toward the particularities of one person&#8217;s history but toward the incarnation of God and the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153second incarnations\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that we are as we live amongst those who love us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MaryKate Morse<\/strong> (Seminary) published <em>A Guidebook to Prayer: 24 Ways to Walk with God<\/em>. She wrote it out of two desires. The first was to share the prayer stories of her students and others she&#8217;s met in ministry settings. The second desire was to approach prayer as a love relationship with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Beginning in Genesis and ending in the Epistles, MaryKate presents various attributes of God and suggests a prayer experience which would help us relate to God through that attribute. The prayer experiences are tailored for individuals, prayer partners or groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophia Tegart<\/strong> (Music) gave a flute master class in the School of Music at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., where she worked with several undergraduate and graduate flute students on Oct. 16. Later that night, she gave a guest artist recital featuring rarely performed flute works.
