At the graduate level, <strong>Terry Huffman<\/strong>, an education professor in the Educational Foundations and Leadership program, received the Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research and Scholarship, while <strong>Chris Meade<\/strong>, assistant professor of management, received the Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Teaching. You can read more about them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.georgefox.edu\/featured_stories\/Top%20Teachers%202012.html\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Gibson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/strong> (Cinema and Media Communication) interactive documentary, <em>Steve Taylor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Digital Clone<\/em>, was awarded the Best of Festival King Foundation Award in the faculty interactive media category at the Broadcast Education Association national convention as well as Best in Competition in the faculty interactive documentary category. This is the highest distinction at BEA given to only the top 1.2 percent of all entries. In addition, Gibson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s companion documentary, <em>Steve Taylor is Not Dead<\/em>, screened at North Central University\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new documentary festival as a non-competition invited lead entry. Sarah also presented a paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Social Media in the Courtroom,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Pacific Northwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kevin T. Jones<\/strong> (Communication Arts) presented a paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I&#8217;m guilty, but leave my family alone: Circumventing personal disaster through sex scandal apologia,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Northwest Communication Association annual conference April 12-14, in Coeur d&#8217;Alene, Idaho. The paper examined rhetorical strategies used by noteworthy individuals (i.e Tiger Woods) when confronting the media about a sex scandal. Several communication arts students presented papers as well. Seniors Lishan Zeng and Kaleb Olsen presented \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The influence of uncertainty on self-disclosure\/intimacy in intercultural communication,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and senior Amanda Kate Winkelman and junior Matayah Fox shared their paper \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Mass Media Study: Online exposure compared to Internet involvement and disclosure.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jim Steele<\/strong> (Business) was a featured speaker on the topic \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A Leader&#8217;s Guide to Navigating Change\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at Corvallis LEADS (Leadership, Education and Development Summit), sponsored by the Corvallis Chamber of Commerce on April 20.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joel Perez<\/strong> (Dean of Transitions and Inclusion) was quoted in an Urban Faith article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Doing College Diversity Well,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that appeared on the organization\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s website on April 27. The article is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanfaith.com\/2012\/04\/doing-college-diversity-well.html\/\">this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Douglas Campbell<\/strong> (Visual Arts) had \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Check,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a mixed media piece, and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Enore,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a monoprint, accepted into a juried exhibit, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Full Moon Rising,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Red Raven Gallery in Salem, Ore. The exhibit runs from May 2 through May 30. Also, his poems \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Reims Rendezvous\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Paths\u00e2\u20ac\u009d are included in the Spring 2012 issue of <em>Windhover: A Journal of Christian Literature<\/em>; his poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Demon Cupid\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was included in the Winter 2011 issue of <em>Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review<\/em>; and his poems \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rodin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gates of Hell\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Constable\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Landscape\u00e2\u20ac\u009d were included in the online journal <em>Ides of March<\/em> in April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathy Weiss, associate professor of biology, received the university\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Achievement Award for Undergraduate Teaching and Doug Campbell, professor of art, was named recipient of the Undergraduate Faculty Research and Scholarship Award.
