{"id":14759,"date":"2012-04-16T10:38:38","date_gmt":"2012-04-16T18:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/?p=14759"},"modified":"2012-04-16T10:38:38","modified_gmt":"2012-04-16T18:38:38","slug":"about-our-people-97","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/ennounce\/2012\/04\/16\/about-our-people-97\/","title":{"rendered":"About Our People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Michael MacLeod<\/strong> (Political Science) gave two paper presentations \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153How Corporations Get Religion: Faith-Based Activism in the Global Political Economy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Financial Activism and Environmental Governance\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and chaired a panel at the International Studies Association Annual Convention, held in San Diego, April 1-4.<\/p>\n<p>This week marks the release of the book <em>Dirt and the Good Life<\/em>, coauthored by <strong>Mark<\/strong> (Graduate Psychology) and <strong>Lisa McMinn<\/strong> (Sociology). The authors will be in Chapters for a book signing this Wednesday, April 18, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A reading will commence at 8 p.m. The book is a collection of stories from Fern Creek, a five-acre parcel of land where the McMinns use the Community Support Agriculture program to share the fruit of their labor with supporters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Gibson<\/strong> (Cinema and Media Communication) worked on the film <em>Blue Like Jazz<\/em> as the assistant to the director in Portland. The film, which opened nationwide April 13, is based on the <em>New York Times<\/em> bestseller by Donald Miller. In addition, Sarah presented a paper last month at the Southern Academy of Legal Studies convention in San Antonio, Texas. The paper, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Snyder v. Phelps: The First Amendment vs. Outrageous Speech,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d looks at the recent Supreme Court case against Westboro Baptist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (English) published a parody haiku of an 18th-century haiku master, Kobayashi Issa. Entitled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Old Issa,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it appeared in the April 1 issue of the New York-based literary journal <em>Parody Poetry Journal<\/em>. In addition, Ed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Threat of Distance\u00e2\u20ac\u009d appears in the April 2012 issue of <em>Blue Print Review<\/em>, a Germany-based online art and literary journal.
