In addition, three of his paintings \u00e2\u20ac\u201c &#8220;Face in Three Acts,&#8221; &#8220;The Vine Maiden&#8221; and &#8220;The Ugly Cross Triptych&#8221; \u00e2\u20ac\u201c are on exhibit through Feb. 24 in &#8220;Wild Women 10,&#8221; a juried exhibit sponsored by the River Gallery in Independence, Ore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greg Allen<\/strong> (Adult Degree Programs) was elected to the C.S. Lewis Academy board of directors in November. He currently serves as chair of the finance committee and as a member of the marketing committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Terry\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/strong> (Visual Arts) pieces will be included in \u00e2\u20ac\u0153West Coast Wood Fire,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d an exhibit featuring wood-fired ceramics by more than 50 contemporary clay artists from California, Oregon and Washington. The exhibit, which will showcase the work of the most prominent artists in Mark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s guild on this side of the country, runs March 2-31 at the Fine Arts Center in Arcata, Calif.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Gibson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/strong> (Cinema and Media Communication) article, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Who is that Masked Man: Should Anonymous Posters to Newspaper Websites be Unmasked?,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was published in the <em>Southern Law Journal<\/em>. Gibson was the lead author along with her coauthor, Brad Reid, a professor at Lipscomb University. The article explores recent court cases and the developing precedent for First Amendment and Shield Law protection to online comments. In addition, Sarah\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s interactive documentary, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve Taylor&#8217;s Digital Clone,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was named winner of the 2012 Broadcast Education Association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Faculty Interactive Media Best of Festival King Foundation Award. The award ceremony will take place in April at the BEA national convention.<\/p>\n<p>A number of English department faculty members participated in the Southwest Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association&#8217;s 33rd Annual Conference Feb. 8-11 in Albuquerque, N.M. Professors (and others) presented papers and <strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> read poetry in a creative writing session:<\/p>\n<p>In the Women and Religion session, <strong>Melanie Mock<\/strong> presented a paper with slide illustrations titled &#8220;Be Quiet, Already: Evangelical Popular Culture\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Misogyny Problem.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <strong>Kendra Weddle Irons<\/strong> (formally in the religion department at GFU) presented in the same session a paper with slide illustrations titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Blogging for God: Women, Christianity Today, Sojourners, and the Christian Century.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a session on Learning and the Freshman Writing Experience, <strong>Gary Tandy<\/strong> presented the paper \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Writing About Basic Beliefs in Basic Writing.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a session on Interpreting Religion, <strong>Kathy Heininge<\/strong> presented the paper \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Stephen Colbert and Stephen King: Catechists for a Secular World.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a session on The Beat World: Exploration of Countercultural Influences, <strong>Sara Kelm<\/strong> (Registrar\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Office) presented the paper \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A Failed Success: Divine Right Davenport as a Hero for the Hippie Counterculture.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a session on Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Studies, <strong>Abby Rine<\/strong> presented a paper with slide illustrations titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Postfeminist Mystique, or What Can We Learn from Betty Draper?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a session on Food and Culture: Regional Food Histories, <strong>Polly Peterson<\/strong> read a paper with slide illustrations titled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Accessible With a Hint of Barnyard: The Culture of Food and Wine in the Red Hills of Dundee.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>In a Creative Writing Poetry session, <strong>Higgins<\/strong> read a selection of poems under the heading \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Four Questions.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennifer Overstreet<\/strong>, <strong>Dan Predoehl<\/strong> and <strong>David Collett<\/strong> (ADP Admissions) presented a seminar, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Academic Concierges: Working With Students from Start to Finish,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d at the Student Success and Retention Conference hosted by the Oregon Council of Student Services Administrators. The conference, held Feb. 2-3 at the Portland Airport Sheraton, was attended by more than 300 people who work at community colleges and public and private universities in Oregon. Jennifer, Dan and David\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presentation detailed the enrollment counselor model we use with our ADP students and how it has improved student success and retention in that program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ed Higgins<\/strong> (English) published the poem \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am spoken fragments\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the February issue of <em>Fortunates<\/em>, an online collection of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153profoundly bite-sized poetry.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He also published a flash fiction piece, &#8220;My Nose,&#8221; in the February issue of the online literary magazine <em>RiverLit<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Have e-Colleague news to share?
