The countdown to finals has begun! This year a group of students are collaborating with the university’s Center for Peace and Justice and Center for Global Studies to run a book drive in partnership with Better World Books to raise money for Invisible Children, an organization dedicated to bettering the lives of children in Central Africa through advocacy and education.<\/p>\n
The book drive begins Monday, Dec. 12<\/strong>, and ends Friday, Dec. 16<\/strong>. Drop books in the four donation bins on campus: in the Stevens Center lobby, Bruin Den, EHS Atrium and outside the bookstore.<\/p>\n The Rationale<\/strong> On college campuses,\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 many\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 thousands of\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 amazing\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 books are\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 thrown out every year at the end of the semester. Because books\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 change edition\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9s so frequently, there are always many books that the bookstore buys\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 back for pennies, or\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 not at all. These are the books we want you to donate. Some\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 of you will\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 even\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 donate books\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 you can sell back because\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 you want to support the\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 cause.<\/p>\n Which Books to Donate<\/strong> Students, staff, faculty and administrators: Don’t hesitate to donate as many books as you can. \nThrough this book drive, unwanted books become the means to rebuild\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 schools and provide scholarships to students in northern Uganda.<\/p>\n
\nTextbooks are\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 the\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 best\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9, but\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 any book\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 coming from our campus will\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 do, including everything from classical\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 fiction to a\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 book on microwave\u00e2\u20ac\u00a9 cooking.<\/p>\n
