For F-1 visa holders, you do not fill out a form; rather, notify the designated signing officer. This is in reference to CFR 265.1, a Title 8 regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Because the penalties for failure to file are severe, including possible removal (deportation), it is critical that all non-U.S. citizens (including permanent residents) ensure they timely file Form AR-11 with each residential move. <strong>While the penalties discussed below are not new, they typically have not been enforced to their fullest extent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>F-1 Visa holders:<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is a reminder that you are required to report an address change within 10 days of the change to the primary designated signing officer (Kerry Ford, at <a href=\"mailto:fordk@georgefox.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fordk@georgefox.edu<\/a>) or DSO (David Martinez and Wendi Upjohn-Hankel) and\/or the International Student Services Office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All other Visa holders:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How to File<\/strong><br \/>\nForm AR-11 can be filed either electronically through a USCIS online account, or by mail. USCIS provides instructions on both methods, including how to create a USCIS online account, at the following link: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/addresschange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Change Your Address<\/a><\/strong>. A USCIS video guide is also available on YouTube: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dVxmhxYnZcE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Changing Your Address in Your USCIS Online Account<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Filing AR-11 through a USCIS online account has the benefit of updating an address change for pending cases with USCIS. Additionally, noncitizens can retain a record of their AR-11 submission online as evidence of their compliance with this legal requirement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Penalties<\/strong><br \/>\nFailure to update USCIS of a change in residential address within 10 days of moving is a misdemeanor and may result in the following penalties under INA 266 (8 USC 1306):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to $200 fine; or<\/li>\n<li>Up to 30 days imprisonment, or both<\/li>\n<li>Removal (deportation) unless it can be shown failure was reasonably excusable or not willful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given the potential for consequences, which can also impact future immigration benefits, it is particularly critical that noncitizens make note of this reporting requirement.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Kerry Ford at <a href=\"mailto:fordk@georgefox.edu\">fordk@georgefox.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Trump administration is focusing on fully enforcing existing immigration laws, including the requirement that noncitizens file Form AR-11 to notify U.S. Citizenship and Immigration of a change in residence within 10 days of moving.
