Get a behind-the-scenes look at iconic Nike advertising Wednesday night

Sunday, February 26th, 2023

Join students from the College of Business and the Art and Design program to get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most iconic advertising campaigns from Portland-based Wieden + Kennedy, including Nike and Old Spice. We’ll meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, in Hoover 102.

Guest speaker Alex Dobson, a former media and communications planning director with Wieden + Kennedy (and a George Fox alumnus), will share his experience working in the advertising business for some of the world’s most recognized brands.

In addition, come learn about the new “Marketing + Design” (MKTG 485/ARTD 485) course to be offered in the spring of 2024. This course will provide students with the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines in the National Advertising Student Competition, a case competition that challenges students to create and present a marketing campaign for a real-world client while competing against other colleges and universities across the region and nationally (3 credits).

Please donate mac and cheese to the Bruin Community Pantry

Sunday, February 26th, 2023

With only 25 boxes of macaroni and cheese left on the shelf, the Bruin Community Pantry is in desperate need of this popular food item. Many college students have not learned the fine art of cooking, and this food item is a staple for their food cupboard.

As you know, food supply chains are greatly interrupted, and this has affected the Oregon Food Bank’s ability to procure this item. Generic brands have the best price.

If you would prefer to purchase through Amazon, please use the Bruin Community Pantry wish list on Amazon, available here.

Please have these items delivered to the food bank in Roberts 109 during our hours of operation, which can be found here. Thank you so much for your help!

Please contact Jere Witherspoon if you have any questions at bruincommunitypantry@georgefox.edu.

Micro-sustainability Monday: Natural gas usage

Sunday, February 26th, 2023

Did you know that the average cost per household per month for natural gas usage is approximately $65, which is primarily used to heat buildings and water?

You can reduce your gas usage by making sure all the windows and doors are closed. Closing windows and doors reduces the amount of gas used because it takes less gas to sustain indoor temperature compared to heating a cold room with a draft.

Lowering your thermostat a degree or two each week is a great start to reducing gas use. When there’s no one in the building, try turning off the heater in the building.

For more information on natural gas and micro-sustainability tips, check out our Instagram at @sustainability_squad_gfu.

Important mid-term grade information for undergraduate students

Thursday, February 23rd, 2023

Midterm grades provide an accurate picture of your academic progress so far this semester. The last day to withdraw from a class without a graded responsibility for a class you may be struggling in is Sunday, March 19.

This means that if you withdraw from a class, your transcript will show a “W.” If you do not withdraw now and ultimately do not pass a course, your GPA will suffer.

Mid-term grade entry starts Saturday, Feb. 25, and ends after Wednesday, March 1.

If your professor has not yet given you a midterm grade, please contact them right away to find out where you stand in that course. Information regarding withdrawing from a class can be found here.

If you received a D or an F on your midterms, you should contact your CAP coach as soon as possible to discuss the consequences of withdrawing from a class. If you withdraw from a class, you should also contact your CAP coach to discuss your class schedule for future semesters. Follow this link to contact CAP coaches.

Here are a couple more resources you may find helpful:

If you need help or have any questions, or need assistance, please contact studentlife@georgefox.edu.

Students who fail all of their classes may have their financial aid package affected. If you have federal financial aid and are not passing any classes, please immediately contact your financial aid and/or student accounts advisor.
