Effective Sep. 1, purchase orders will not be required for credit card purchases. All other spending guidelines remain in effect and will be closely monitored for compliance. Thank you all for your continued efforts to carefully evaluate all spending.

Purchasing and Finance are currently working on updated credit card policies and procedures that will result in fewer cards issued and cards identified for more specific uses. Once implemented, these changes are expected to continue to simplify the purchasing process.

Campus Public Safety has been giving out parking warnings all last week to educate students on where they can park. Beginning today (Monday), we will begin issuing real citations with fines for parking violations. Please speak with our officers if you have parking or campus safety concerns.

This includes citations for parking in off-campus neighborhoods. You must park only where your permit allows or your car will be ticketed. Please help us by being considerate of our neighbors when you park.

If you are still uncertain about where your permit allows you to park, please review the parking brochure.

Still have parking questions or problems? Come see us at the Campus Public Safety office if:

• You are unclear about where your permit allows you to park
• You registered your vehicle before Aug. 12 and haven’t received your permit
• You are a commuter and haven’t received either your permit or a confirmation email with a temporary parking permit

Life Groups are offered by the Office for Spiritual Life as a weekly time of Bible study, fellowship and prayer. Groups led by a graduating senior or a post-college leader and are all male, all female or co-ed.

Fall groups are nine weeks in length, starting the week of Sep. 7. This fall all Life Groups will be either Zoom groups or hybrid groups. Hybrid groups will meet via Zoom or may occasionally meet outdoors as the weather, state and university regulations, and participant comfort permit.

Throughout the pandemic, students can earn SpiL credit for participating in Life Groups through the Office for Spiritual Life in order to encourage engagement in high-quality spiritual formation experiences that are participatory and offer ongoing community.

Life Groups are overseen by the Office of Spiritual and Intercultural Life, which is passionate about providing students the opportunity to be spiritually nurtured in intentional communities focused on intimacy with God and spiritual formation.

After 24 years of service at George Fox, John Heitz is retiring at the end of August. John has served the university in plant services’ building repair department, and more recently as planner/estimator for plant services projects.

Students will remember him best by his startling demonstration on why undamaged window screens are important. Some staff may remember him best by his willingness to chase out unwanted animal residents. Serving 24 years means that there are so many great stories!

In lieu of a campus event, we would like to bless John with cards and letters. If you could take a moment to write him a note (or recall a favorite memory), please send those to Box 6449. Thank you!

Come celebrate Paul’s retirement after 43 years of service at George Fox University! This will be a time to thank Paul for all of his many accomplishments both in the chemistry department and the Center for Study Abroad.

The celebration will be held in the amphitheater from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 18.

The sunny yellow lids on the bins in the outside enclosures are for recycling only. Please avoid dumping garbage in the recycling bins because it contaminates the entire bin. If trash has been mixed into the recycling, the entire bin must be taken to the landfill.

The recycling bins are a commingled service, so recyclables can be mixed together. View the full list of what can be recycled. 

Recycling not only reduces the use of raw resources, it also reduces what is taken to landfills and saves the university money in garbage fees. Thank you for making a positive impact on our world!

A George Fox student and faculty member are looking for students to participate in a study of academic stress. Students will report throughout the fall semester via monthly five-minute online surveys.

If surveys are completed on time, students will be eligible to win an Amazon gift card and will earn an entry to win for each survey completed.

The Office for Spiritual Life has invited our local churches to participate in a rolling church fair over the next three weeks.  During the school week, we will host one church per meal time on the lawn outside of the SpiL House. 

With your safety in mind, churches have been asked to send no more than two representatives, to wear masks at all times, to make available only individually packaged items, to refrain from physical contact, and to keep six feet of distance at all times.

We are eager to have you connect with our wonderful area churches and are grateful that they are willing to come to campus. We will highlight visiting churches on our Instagram account @gfuspil.

It has come to our attention that many commuters are expecting to automatically receive a parking permit because they were charged for it this summer. Unfortunately, the only way to get the permit is to go online and register for it.

The reason for this is that there is no way for us to know if you have moved, changed housing, or brought a different vehicle than the one you had last year. Make sure to include a valid mailing address when ordering. After completing your registration, print out the temporary permit and place it in your vehicle until you receive your sticker.

If you have tried to register but are having trouble, please contact Campus Public Safety. We can look into your registration account to see why you are being denied access.

Also in a separate note, the 99W lot by Steve’s Automotive is no longer leased by George Fox, so please don’t park there to avoid being towed.

• One-on-one basketball will not be permitted, but up to three people may share a hoop with separate balls
• Basketball courts 2 and 3 will be closed for class space
• Basketball court 1 and the track will be available outside of class hours (see times below)
