‘Real Conversations on Emergency Preparedness’ presented this Monday

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

Would you like to be better prepared to deal with a natural disaster? Are you ready if and when the “Big One” strikes? Come hear Steven Eberlein, a disaster preparedness expert, talk about emergency preparedness this Monday, March 4, at 4 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Eberlein was living in Sri Lanka in 2004 when a 9.1 subduction zone earthquake off the coast of Indonesia triggered a massive tsunami that took 230,000 lives in more than a dozen countries circling the Indian Ocean. As an aid worker, he was active witnesses to one of the largest multi-national relief efforts in history, starting from its earliest hours. Steven now works full time to educate audiences on the power of earthquakes and what can be done to be prepared for them.

For more information on the presentation, contact Brett Meyers, coordinator of student programs, at bmeyers@georgefox.edu.

Update on ‘Wineskin’ submission deadline

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019

The Wineskin is still accepting submissions until March 22! Last week’s announcement about submissions closing on Feb. 22 was incorrect. We apologize for any confusion.

There is no theme for this semester – just send us your best poems, stories, essays and artwork. The editors are open to a wide range of styles and subject matter, but we are particularly looking for work that pushes boundaries and surprises us with its artistic approach and perspective of the world.

Please submit all poetry, prose, photography and artwork online through this link.

Submission guidelines:

  • Poetry and prose manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document in Times New Roman in 12-point font. Please title your pieces and remove your name from the document.
  • Limit all prose to 1,000 words and send no more than five poems per submission.
  • For artwork: Files should be named as the title of your piece followed by your name. Please remove all watermarks from your work.

Submissions close on Friday, March 22. Questions? Contact Hannah Dierdorff at hdierdorff15@georgefox.edu.
