How business and philanthropy mesh is topic of March 26 event

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Can a mutually caring relationship hold the key to a new and effective means of philanthropy?

How a company in Vancouver, Wash., and dozens of Christian ministries are serving as an example will be outlined by Pat Johnson, executive director of US Digital Outreach, when she speaks Tuesday, March 26, at the monthly Newberg meeting of the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest.

The meeting is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Villa Academic Complex. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

At US Digital, a manufacturing firm in Vancouver, a simple effort to provide office space turned into a vibrant and collaborative expression of community outreach. In her role, Johnson coordinates how 35 different ministries are accommodated in the upper floor of the company building. Johnson is also the former national director of World Vision/Love INC, former coordinator for Mission Portland Networking, and founder and director of several nonprofit ministries.

For more information, go to the Chamber’s website, cccnw.net, or call 503-928-8354.

Mid-Term Grade Information

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Have you checked your mid-term grade report? Depending upon what you find, you need to consider taking some action.

To check your mid-term grades in MYGFU –

    CLICK ON SELF-SERVICE
    CLICK ON ENROLLMENT
    CLICK ON VIEW MY GRADES
    CLICK ON THE CORRECT TERM
CLICK ON THE MID-TERM GRADES TAB

Now you need to determine what to do next:

  • Consider whether to withdraw from one or more courses if it looks likely that you’ll get an F (or maybe even a D).
  • The last date to withdraw is Sunday, March 24, 2013.

You can usually go below 12 hours (at this point in the semester) without impacting your financial aid or housing. However, you should contact representatives in these departments to be certain:

  • Residence Life – Dave Johnstone – djohnstone@georgefox.edu
  • Student Financial Services – mailto:sfs@georgefox.edu

Withdrawal results in a W on your transcript but does not factor into GPA.

If you were to get an F, it would impact GPA.

  • Confirm any thoughts of withdrawing from classes with your advisor.
  • Meet with each professor, especially those teaching courses you’re struggling in. Even if your professor doesn’t post mid-term grades, find out from the professor what your grade is.
  • Meet with your advisor to discuss options.
  • Use labs, help sessions, & the ARC.
  • If you think you might have a learning disability, have some assessment done. Contact the Health and Counseling Center at 503-554-2340 or stop by their offices.
  • Plan well for fall semester.
  • Consider whether you are in the right pathway in terms of a major or career. You might want to enroll in GEED 214: Claim Your Career Calling, a 1-hour online course: This course is offered in the spring semester.

Contact Career Service – careers@georgefox.edu.

If you have any questions, concerns or need direction, please contact Jere Witherspoon – jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu
