Say thanks to someone who made a difference

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Is there someone at George Fox who has made a difference in your academic career? Someone who ignited a spark to make you want to learn or attend class or who has acted as a role model? Take a moment to write an e-mail, e-card, or traditional “thank you” card to that professor, tutor, administrator, classmate, or other person. Try to be specific as you describe how this person has contributed to your life.

Newberg students can stop by the SUB to write a note; Portland Center students can stop at the Information Desk. Of course, one can make or buy one’s own card.

MLK Day of Service will focus on literacy

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

It’s time to sign up for MLK Serve Day 2013! I know it seems early, but it is just so we can prepare for the approximately 1,000 volunteers that day. Will you be one of them? Our 2013 MLK Day will have a special focus on literacy.

Did you know that…

  • Only one-third of all students entering high school are proficient in reading
  • Only about 15 percent of African-American students and only 17 percent of Hispanic students are proficient in reading entering high school (NAEP Reading, 2009)

Register here today to be a part of the largest collective movement in the nation on MLK day!

The details:

When: Jan. 21, 2013
Time: Meet in Stevens at 6:30 a.m., where we will bus to Portland together
Why: Promote literacy in accordance to Dr. King’s dream

Make sure you’ve registered on myGFU!

Monday, December 10th, 2012

Students, here are a few reminders for vehicle registration for next semester:

-If you are bringing back the same car after break, or have previously registered as NOCAR, then you have nothing else to do. However, if you have neglected to either register your vehicle, or haven’t checked the box as NOT having a vehicle, your account will be charged $25 after the Add/Drop date in January (Jan. 25th). So, save yourself some money and go on myGFU and either register your car or check the box for not having a vehicle.

-If you are changing housing status, and either moving from one side of the campus to another, or moving off-campus, you will need to scrape off your current permit (razor blades available in the Security office)and bring it to Security so we can get you set up with the proper permit.

-If you’ve been registered as NOCAR, but are bringing back a car after break, please go back on myGFU and click on the minus sign to the right of your NOCAR listing BEFORE typing in your vehicle information in the empty boxes. Simply erasing NOCAR and inputting a license plate number will NOT go through on myGFU, so be sure and use the minus sign FIRST.

Security is always willing to answer questions, so don’t hesitate to call us at ext. 2090 if you have further questions.
