Annual Burn in the Quad scheduled for Wednesday

Monday, September 12th, 2011

On Wednesday (Sept. 14), immediately after chapel, the Newberg Fire Department, invited by Residence Life, will be conducting its fifth annual Burn in the Quad. This is our shortest program but one of the most engaging educational experiences of the year. They will demonstrate how quickly a residence hall room can become consumed by smoke and flames.

The event will happen in the clock tower quad; the fire will start by 11:40 a.m. and it will probably be over by 11:45 a.m. Our apologies if this causes some classroom disruption.

Hey sociology majors and friends:

Who: You are invited to a campfire and s’mores get together at Fern Creek!

When: Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. (Meet in the Hoover parking lot at 6:40 and we’ll carpool.)

What: On behalf of Melanie Hulbert, Lisa McMinn and the rest of the sociology office, we would like to extend an invitation to sociology majors, minors and anyone interested in sociology to a campfire at Fern Creek, which is Lisa’s lovely farm.

Come join us for yummy treats and great company! R.S.V.P. if you can so we have an idea of how many of you to expect, and let us know if you can drive. We’ll meet at the Hoover parking lot and make our way together, though directions are below if you need/want to drive out separately.

Go about 3 1/2 miles on Hwy 240 and turn left onto Williamson Road (it’s a T in the road, and the first left turn possible after Red Fox Road).  Go 1/2 mile up Williamson and turn left at 18703. It’s a gravel driveway, just past Berry Lane and before Williamson turns into a Y. If you look for it you’ll see a Fern Creek Farm sign on the oak tree at the base of the driveway.

Add your contact info to the FoxAlert emergency notification system

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Have you wondered how you would be notified in the event of an emergency on the Newberg campus?

The answer is FOXALERT.

FOXALERT is a communication service from Blackboard Connect Inc., to deliver emergency information to students and staff.

GFU has implemented the service to provide us with the ability to reach students and staff members with information and updates during unforeseen events or emergencies, within minutes, through phone calls, e-mails and/or text messages.

In the unlikely event of an emergency you would be potentially notified through three different methods:

1. Cell phone
2. E-mail
3. Text message

HOWEVER, for either of these methods to work YOU must enter your personal contact information in your MYGFU account.
Here’s how you do it!

–       Login to your MYGFU account
–       Click on SELF SERVICE
–       Click on CAMPUS PERSONAL INFORMATION
–       Click on PHONE NUMBERS
–       On the PHONE TYPE pick list, choose the phone type you are registering.
–       Type in your contact information
–       Click SAVE
–       If you need to add a number, first click on ADD A PHONE NUMBER
–       Make sure you click SAVE after each change.

When contacted by PHONE the number you will see is: 503-554-2007.

Your safety is very important to us.  Thank you for your participation!

If you have questions please contact Jere Witherspoon – jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu.

Thanks for your attention to this matter and please enter the requested information into MYGFU as soon as possible BUT NO LATER THAN Friday, September 16th, 2011.
