Historical artifacts on display for Bruin Heritage Week

In honor of Bruin Heritage Week 2009, be sure to stop by Wheeler Sports Center anytime this week to get a closer look at rarely seen historical artifacts from the university’s past, some dating back more than 100 years.

Grad school workshop offered in Newberg and via webinar Oct. 13

On Tuesday, Oct 13, a “Getting Into Grad School” prep-shop, led by Career Services graduate assistant and PsyD student Chloe Lee, is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in Hoover 210. Learn about using a timeline for admissions; taking the grad exams; selecting grad schools; preparing a curriculum vitae, cover letter and essay; obtaining recommendations; finding financial aid; and practicing for an admissions interview.

The event also will be available via webinar at the same time. Contact Career Services at careers@georgefox.edu to get on either list. The webinar has limited slots and is reserved for distance audiences first. A waiting list is available for the Newberg campus.

All-cello concert plays in Bauman Auditorium this Sunday

The Department of Performing Arts will present the Oregon Cello Society’s “All-Cello Concert: From Classical to Contemporary” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in Bauman Auditorium.

Tickets are $3 for students and children, $5 for adults, and a $15 maximum for families. For more information, see the Oregon Cello Society’s website at oregoncello.org.

Bruin Den, Villa Cafe closed Friday for mid-semester holiday

Forum discusses topic of how U.S. aid impacts people in majority world

Ben Spotts from IDEAS will be speaking at the university’s Liberal Arts and Critical Issues Forum from 4:40 to 5:35 p.m. and from 7 to 7:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in Hoover 105.

The session is part of this fall’s lecture series concerning “The Majority World and the West.” Hear how U.S. tax dollars and faith-based offerings directed to the majority world impact people. Ben Spotts has worked in India as a communications consultant with a focus on human rights. People with IDEAS offer professional skills to meet the needs and transform the lives of forgotten people.

Career Services is sponsoring transportation to the Idealist Nonprofit Career Fair in Portland on Wednesday, Oct. 14, where more than 45 nonprofit organizations will be represented. Previous attendees made strong connections with nonprofit employers, so reserve your space in the van by Tuesday, Oct. 13. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Deadline to donate winter items to Love INC is Oct. 19

There is only a short time remaining to give HUGS (hats, umbrellas, gloves and scarves) to Love INC. Please help those less fortunate stay warm and dry during the upcoming winter months. Toiletry items not covered by food stamps are also gladly being accepted. Donations can be placed in the bright yellow decorated barrels located in lobbies throughout the Newberg campus and Portland Center.

Thank you for joining the Staff Development Committee in this donation drive. The deadline for contributions is noon on Monday, Oct. 19.

Monday’s noon walking session has been rescheduled

Monday’s staff lunch meets on roof of Wood-Mar/EHS

The staff lunch scheduled for this Monday, Oct. 12, will be held on the roof of Wood-Mar/EHS. A boxed lunch will be provided, along with a special university history presentation by Clyde Thomas (Plant Services Director) — and a spectacular view of campus.

Take the elevator to the third floor, walk around to the far northwest corner of Wood-Mar, then walk up a short stairway to the rooftop. Staff Development Committee members will be available for direction and special assistance.
