Make a Fortune \u2013 Write a Book<\/p>\n
The title alone of James Hunter\u2019s book, To Change the World<\/em>, should vastly increase his brokerage account!\u00a0 <\/span>Everyone wants to change the world \u2013 that\u2019s our mandate.\u00a0 <\/span>With eager Christian consumers ready to pounce on any book that might transform lives, his financial future should be set and God\u2019s purpose for us will have been achieved.\u00a0 <\/span>However, after opening the pages, the reader quickly realizes that it might not be as simple as we think as most efforts throughout the years have failed and that the way we do Christianity hasn\u2019t seemed to work in changing much either.\u2026.in over 2,000 years.<\/p>\n He reminds us that we are a Church in tension, desiring meaningful things; \u201ctransformation of the world\u201d and \u201creclamation of the culture,\u201d but upon further examination, these goals seem opposite of Christ\u2019s call.\u00a0 <\/span>Instead, we need to come to grips with the fact that we are exiles here on earth and that there are no truly Christian nations.\u00a0 <\/span>Upon understanding that concept, then we can perhaps make a difference.\u00a0 <\/span>He speaks of learning to \u201cflourish people\u201d and rediscover ways of engagement of culture instead of strategizing the next political move.<\/p>\n Leaving the US for Brazil as missionary years ago changed my understanding of the politicizing effects of religion.\u00a0 <\/span>Instead of denominational sparring, criticism and wondering if \u201cthat\u201d group will really be part of eternity with us as I was accustomed, I found that if I stuck to the core beliefs, the few missionaries in our area of Brazil \u2013 from varied US and European denominational groups \u2013 worked well together.\u00a0 <\/span>We found that when given the opportunity, the little things melted away.\u00a0 <\/span>It was validation of Hunter\u2019s comments that \u201ctrue community will be what helps in this difficult life.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Working together, concentrating on the core beliefs would be a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n Although many try to separate Christianity from life while others infuse it exclusively into one area such as government, Hunter believes that \u201cFaithful Presence\u201d will be key in growing future influence.\u00a0 <\/span>A faith that plays out in all spheres of life;
