{"id":339,"date":"2014-02-13T23:33:06","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T23:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.dminlgp.com\/?p=339"},"modified":"2014-08-12T22:36:07","modified_gmt":"2014-08-12T22:36:07","slug":"the-grieving-of-a-life-well-lived","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/the-grieving-of-a-life-well-lived\/","title":{"rendered":"The Grieving of a Life Well Lived"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- [if gte mso 9]&gt;-->This past week a good friend of Naomi and I lost their mom to cancer.\u00a0 In preparation to go to Costa Rica for a wedding, she wanted to have some upper chest issues looked at by her family Dr..\u00a0 From that first appointment, hospitalization and diagnosis till today, it has been less than a month.\u00a0 As a tribute to Lauren Charles and her dear family we honor her earthly life, as a life well lived before God and others.\u00a0 Throughout this past month, her daughter Nicole used facebook\u00a0 to celebrate, lament and grieve a life well lived.\u00a0 The following is a post Nicole placed on facebook this past week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"usercontent\">From my beginning to her end on this earth, she honestly &amp; truly was my biggest cheerleader\u2026.I love you mom, it\u2019s going to be so hard without you. You are so, very missed\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"usercontent\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/31.media.tumblr.com\/f274e102015feb8910e165915ee432a0\/tumblr_inline_n0yjwu6JEQ1rvyiy6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"usercontent\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/31.media.tumblr.com\/f73dfe151f7b31ac584e3f3d43da4b2e\/tumblr_inline_n0yjxf8usn1rvyiy6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This past week while reading selected articles by Stephen Garner I was struck by his concept that emerging technologies are convergent spaces where<strong> lament, grief and formation<\/strong> can be shared with broader communities for our own growth as well as the growth of others.\u00a0 While reading, paralleled with the loss of our good friend\u2019s mom, I was able to observe Garner\u2019s key points in word and life.\u00a0 The following are two keys which emerged during this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>2 Keys to Healthy Lament<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>A Space For Healing\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0 When a great loss has occurred \u00a0in our lives, space is important.\u00a0 With great loss, comes pain, and in that place it\u2019s difficult to verbalize emotions and even thoughts.\u00a0 New social media platforms provide space where one can communicate thoughts and feelings, yet not have to be in proximity to those who will read.\u00a0 For all who\u2019ve gone through loss, having to explain the same thing over again 100 times, is even more draining to the soul on top of the loss.\u00a0 Social media allows the one who is grieving to express their highs and lows, and allows the freedom for those who read, to choose engagement or silence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>A Platform For Community\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0 Grief, pain and healing has classically been reserved for close family and friends.\u00a0 Only a select few could or would be invited into the inner circles of lament and healing.\u00a0 Though this is still physically true, social media has created a space where a greater community can take part in the celebration, remembrance and healing from the loss of a loved one.\u00a0 This greater community may now take place throughout the duration of the grieving process and not just on the day of the funeral.\u00a0 Embedded in this concept a new reality is given to the Acts 2 community.\u00a0 They were together as one.\u00a0 The following is an excerpt from Nicole\u2019s facebook page and their greater grieving community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Flowers and kind words from a new friend\u2026totally unexpected, absolutely perfect &amp;
