{"id":32508,"date":"2023-04-22T11:58:15","date_gmt":"2023-04-22T18:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/?p=32508"},"modified":"2023-04-24T05:47:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T12:47:35","slug":"%d0%b5%d0%bf%d1%96%d0%bb%d0%be%d0%b3-epilogue-ukrainian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/%d0%b5%d0%bf%d1%96%d0%bb%d0%be%d0%b3-epilogue-ukrainian\/","title":{"rendered":"\u0415\u043f\u0456\u043b\u043e\u0433-Epilogue (Ukrainian)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u0415\u043f\u0456\u043b\u043e\u0433-Epilogue (Ukrainian)<\/p>\n<p>Today, an online magazine article from one of my \u201cgo to\u201d magazines presented itself.\u00a0 Listed on the Christian Realist <em>Providence Magazine<\/em>, I read Ed Meador\u2019s article about \u201cApocalypse Now:\u00a0 The Revelations of Vladimir Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meador writes, \u201cNow, following decades of deception, Putin has unveiled his heart of KGB darkness, outrageously demonstrating just how much evil one human being can inflict. Deep in the darkness of extreme narcissism, Putin has embraced tyranny.\u00a0 Lust for absolute sovereignty has disabled his capacity for reason, compassion, law, truth, human decency and just governance\u2014his skull obstinate, his chest petrified.\u201d <a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As we study leadership in the ivory tower of academia, I return to my favorite rant that while the world is spinning by our tower windows, where we are studiously studying western civilian leadership philosophies, the leaders of several major countries are changing the world.\u00a0 When we step out the gates of our tower, will we find the world the same as we left it?<\/p>\n<p>I would suggest that we look at some oldies but goodies like, Reinhold Niebuhr\u2019s book <em>Moral Man and immoral society: a study in ethics and politics.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\"><strong>[2]<\/strong><\/a> <\/em>As a reminder, Neibuhr spoke out against U.S. pacifism during America\u2019s initial hesitancy in entering World War II.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that Putin is not realizing that he is a defended leader<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> as Simon Walker describes. Walker writes, \u201cThe most dangerous kind of person is the one with a great deal of power who denies that they have any, or who denies that power is a fundamental factor in their leadership.\u00a0 This is the strategy of what I call \u2018defended leaders\u2019.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another article in Providence writes&#8230;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/providencemag.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=943e606c2612751b144c02245&amp;id=00d03d9fcd&amp;e=5ba7d0a90a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/providencemag.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D943e606c2612751b144c02245%26id%3D00d03d9fcd%26e%3D5ba7d0a90a&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1682425774978000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2xt82bX4nMSwrt_H4oV4_j\">America\u2019s Eagle Bears Two Talons: John F. Kennedy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 it is well worth the read. <a href=\"https:\/\/providencemag.com\/authors\/robert-morrison\/\">Robert Morrison<\/a>\u00a0on April 17, 2023<\/p>\n<p>But I digress.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Satell\u2019s book, <em>Cascades: How to create a movement that drives transformational chang<\/em>e, is excellent.\u00a0 Satell ties the cascade of change in the Euromaiden revolution in Ukraine as an example of how evil leaders may be defeated. Given the current war in Ukraine, this seems entirely relevant.\u00a0 One hopes that \u2018Cascades\u2019 resonates in the heartbeat of Russian peace activists.<\/p>\n<p>Satell writes, \u201cPolitical disruptions are, of course, nothing new, but the Orange Revolution is where I began to understand the power of cascades.\u00a0 I became intensely interested about why some movements succeed and others just flame out.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a>\u00a0 He gives other examples of cascading changes caused by Ghandi, Mandela and others.<\/p>\n<p>Satell\u2019s last chapter provides considerable insight for initiating cascades of changes of our own. In the chapter entitled, <em>Afterword \u2013 Leading toward common ground<\/em> he provides 6 steps to begin our own cascade of change.\u00a0 I avidly apply them here alongside my NPO efforts to change the heuristic biases<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a> that U.S. politics have towards <em>Refugee Resettlement \u2013 1<sup>st<\/sup> 30 days of U.S. Resettlement<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 1:\u00a0 Identify A Keystone change<\/u>. <a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A keystone change needs to be a concrete and tangible goal.<\/li>\n<li>A Keystone change unites diverse stakeholders in the Spectrum of Allies and Pillars of Support.<\/li>\n<li>A keystone change paves the way for future change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>NPO application:\u00a0 1) Provide a jumpstart tool (Interlinkt \u2013 Linking Internationals to their new homeland) that churches and their volunteers can use to wrap themselves around the international newcomer. 2) While there is tremendous debate for and against refugees, there is a strong thread of love for the \u201cstranger amongst us\u201d within churches.\u00a0 Finding the hubs of churches that are willing to take Interlinkt \u2013 the resettlement app and use it for the international newcomer in their communities is a goal. 3) Resettling refugees is just the start, Humanitarian Parolees, Asylum seekers and others represent phase 2,3, etc.\u2026of the Interlinkt program<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 2: Make a plan<\/u> \u2013 Identify, specifically, who you need to win over to bring change (p 231).<\/p>\n<p>NPO application: Large denominations (Baptist, Methodist, Catholics) have tremendous reach.\u00a0 There are also 10 U.S. Resettlement Agencies that need to \u2018buy in\u2019 to the use of the telephone app.<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 3: Build a network of small groups<\/u> \u2013 Successful movements are rooted in network cascades, and cascades are built upon small world networks (p.232).<\/p>\n<p>NPO Application: Currently, still searching for hubs\/groups of churches that will test and provide feedback on the Interlinkt App.\u00a0 So far there is one Oregon, one Minnesota, two Texas and one hub in Atlanta that are interested in participation.<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 4: Indoctrinate Genomes of Values<\/u> \u2013 Yet shared purpose will soon disintegrate in the face of adversity if there are not shared values. (And remember, values cost something, if not, they are merely platitudes (p. 233).<\/p>\n<p>NPO Application: Deuteronomy 10:18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. Along with 36 other verses that speak to the alien amongst us, are the biblical mandate that calls us to love the \u201cstranger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 5: Create platforms for participation, mobilization and connection (p.234). <\/u>\u00a0The reason that nonviolent uprisings deliver better results than violent ones is that they invite participation.<\/p>\n<p>NPO Application: Yikes, social media exploration is a current weak spot.\u00a0 Facebook, Instagram, and others need to be established so that the hubs can provide feedback.\u00a0 The initial Interlinkt website\/app will have some limited places for feedback and comment.<\/p>\n<p><u>Step 6: Survive Victory<\/u> \u2013 Successful movements survive victory by staying true to their values even after the initial triumph.\u00a0 Euromaiden succeeded where the Orange revolution failed because it continued to promote its values after Yanukovych had been removed from office (p.234).<\/p>\n<p>NPO Application: Phase 1 is focused on legal refugees.\u00a0 Phase two will expand to Humanitarian Parolees and Asylum Seekers.<\/p>\n<p>In short, Satell has given me a template that will drive my NPO development this summer (2023)!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Ed Meador, \u201cApocalypse Now: The Revelations of Vladimir Putin,\u201d Providence, April 10, 2023, https:\/\/providencemag.com\/2023\/04\/apocalypse-now-the-revelations-of-vladimir-putin\/.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" name=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> Reinhold Niebuhr, <em>Moral Man and Immoral Society: A Study in Ethics and Politics<\/em>, Second edition, Library of Theological Ethics (Louisville, KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2013).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" name=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Simon P.
