{"id":255,"date":"2014-03-06T22:20:17","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T22:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.dminlgp.com\/?p=255"},"modified":"2014-08-12T17:22:06","modified_gmt":"2014-08-12T17:22:06","slug":"my-happy-dance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/my-happy-dance\/","title":{"rendered":"My Happy Dance!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My daughter is embarrassed when I try and imitate the \u201chappy dance\u201d done by an actor on a commercial for the Choice Hotels lodging chain.\u00a0 He is so happy after a nice night of sleep for a good price that he dances on his suitcase.\u00a0 It is quite enjoyable to watch \u2013 pure joy and unbridled expression!\u00a0 Similarly, we\u2019ve all talked with children about going to their \u201chappy place\u201d when they are sad, remembering a special time in their lives.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6AWUH0J0SyI\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6AWUH0J0SyI<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/31.media.tumblr.com\/aa2a029183a9286ee4e67bd2b5bdbec4\/tumblr_inline_n21cmgIx0S1rsqmkf.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Daniel P. Forrester in <em>Consider<\/em> is in fact telling us to go to our happy place.\u00a0 For him this might not be a place to reminisce about better times or celebrate a good value but rather, a time to think, contemplate and build for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Forrester stresses how technology is cheating us from these times of reflection and urges \u201cno email Fridays,\u201d sabbaticals, enough sleep and physically separating ourselves from our work environment to achieve time for contemplation.\u00a0 Facebook and Twitter he says, only feed us streams of other\u2019s thoughts, making it difficult to hear our own voice.\u00a0 We must, he says, counter our single largest deficit we face as leaders, a lack of time to reflect and think.<\/p>\n<p>I would have to agree with Forrester on his caution about the speed of technological and change, knowing that we can\u2019t keep up anyway.\u00a0 As an example, he uses Blackberry and Blackberry Culture throughout to identify a busy person, while within the short time that the book was published and now, Blackberry is almost non-existent and is quickly disappearing from our culture!<\/p>\n<p>I am actually writing this blog from one of my Think Time spots \u2013 an airplane.\u00a0 I\u2019m on the way to Macedonia, through Vienna.\u00a0 Fortunately I have no seatmate and I\u2019m on an aisle so I have room to set up my keyboard to type, after reading <em>Consider<\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s more than just a work station or a way to kill time during the flight.\u00a0 As I fly about once a month, I find myself using the long hours as a time to think and contemplate.\u00a0 After dinner is served and I\u2019ve watched a movie, I generally lay back, put the Bose headphones on and listen to classical music.\u00a0 This for me is the best Think Time I can have and generally after a couple of hours dosing, dreaming and thinking, I have generated new ideas, directions and plans \u2013 not only for work but for family and life.\u00a0 This is when God truly communicates with me.<\/p>\n<p>I resonated with his ideas on Paradoxical Thinking, \u201cthe ability to hold two competing thoughts in your mind at the same time.\u201d\u00a0 The ability to so open your mind to possibilities that one begins to see weakness as strengths and vice-verse.\u00a0 This type of thinking can produce agility and thinking outside the box, especially during times of failing strategies.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not sure what my hotel will be like tonight.\u00a0 Perhaps I\u2019ll leave wanting to dance the \u201chappy dance,\u201d but regardless of the lodging, I will have understood the benefits of giving time to think and plan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My daughter is embarrassed when I try and imitate the \u201chappy dance\u201d done by an actor on a commercial for the Choice Hotels lodging chain.\u00a0 He is so happy after a nice night of sleep for a good price that he dances on his suitcase.\u00a0 It is quite enjoyable to watch \u2013 pure joy and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[22,108,105,110,109],"class_list":["post-255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-dimlgp","tag-f","tag-forrester","tag-happiness","tag-lgp","cohort-lgp3"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/255","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/9"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=255"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/255\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1574,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/255\/revisions\/1574"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=255"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=255"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=255"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
