She\u2019s taking a risk, and she\u2019s not concerned with perfection.\u00a0 She\u2019s enjoying the moment.\u00a0 This, too, is how I identify myself as a dancer.\u00a0 Maybe I identify with her because I\u2019m not skilled?\u00a0 Or because I don\u2019t care about every move and every arm extension?<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to innovation, I\u2019m not creative or artistic in the crafty kind of way (I don\u2019t even have a Pinterest account), but I am a DREAMER and I love to imagine and design \u201csystems\u201d.\u00a0 Metaphorically and visually, I connect types of dancers (personalities) to Tina Seelig\u2019s narratives on creativity and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever considered the depth of imagination, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship (Seelig\u2019s steps) required by a refugee? \u00a0Sheer courage is displayed from the tenacity to survive an oppressive environment to the capacity to make the escape. \u00a0Once displaced, survival requires imagination, creativity and innovation in the long-term refugee camp.\u00a0 There are no guarantees\u2026from the ability to communicate in a known language, to employment and income, to a private shelter for your family, to a resettlement country of choice. NO GUARANTEES.\u00a0 Have you ever had to step out in that much faith?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m intrigued by a fairly new humanitarian initiative called <u>bottom up<\/u> innovation.\u00a0 \u201cWe call this type of innovation, driven by affected communities themselves, \u2018bottom-up innovation\u2019, and we identify it as a critical but overlooked component of a broader phenomenon called \u2018humanitarian innovation\u2019.\u201d \u00a0Refugee stakeholders are motivated to improve organizational efforts and responses to provide services.\u00a0 However, stakeholders are notorious for getting so caught up in program development that they fail to recognize the talents and gifts of the displaced refugee. \u201cThis oversight disregards the capabilities and adaptive resourcefulness that people and communities affected by conflict and disaster often demonstrate.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a>\u00a0 According to the report <em>Refugee Innovation Humanitarian &#8211; innovation that starts with communities, <\/em>there are key elements to a \u201cpositive enabling environment\u201d for bottom-up innovation which include a) a permissive environment with the right to work and freedom of movement; b) access to connectivity including the internet and telecommunications; c) access to education and skills training; d) good infrastructure and transportation links; e) access to banking and credit facilities; f) transnational networks.\u00a0 Rather than focusing on providing a <u>crisis response<\/u> environment to refugees, we should consider providing a <u>better enabling<\/u> environment.\u00a0 How would this look?\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure, but I have lots of thoughts spinning in my head (back to being that DREAMER).\u00a0 I embrace the idea and plan to integrate this concept into my refugee resilience artifact.<\/p>\n<p>So, back to dancing.\u00a0 What\u2019s your personal style (check out the descriptions below)?\u00a0 Are you the poised, perfectionist dancer, or do you cut lose on the dance floor?\u00a0 And how does your dancing style directly correlate to your ability to be a successful entrepreneur?\u00a0 \u201cIt is important to keep in mind that your attitudes are impotent unless you develop behaviors that bring those thoughts to fruition; and your actions are doomed to fail unless they are paired with the proper mind-set.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I leave you with this thought\u2026I hope you dance, I mean REALLY DANCE.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-18867 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dminlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-driver-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"157\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-driver-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-driver-150x225.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-driver.jpg 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<em>Drivers<\/em><\/strong><em>, in all areas\u00a0<\/em><em>of life, are people who need to win. Results are vital to them. For some drivers, results can be all that matters. As a rule, they make good dancers because they are so assertive. They are\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0often driven to compete and work hard to improve their skill, often achieving great results in a short time. Surprisingly, they can ten lack expressiveness on the floor, even though their movement is usually strong and\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>dynamic.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\"><strong>[4]<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18868 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dminlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-expressive.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-expressive.jpg 249w, https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-expressive-150x90.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 249px) 100vw, 249px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Expressi<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>ve <\/em><\/strong><em>dancers are the most fun to watch on the dance floor\u00a0<\/em><em>. T<\/em><em>hey a\u00a0<\/em><em>re outgoing and passionate about dancing. Like Drivers, they are assertive on the dance floor. They smile and have fun. Often t<\/em><em>hey show immediate ability as dancers due to these qualities. They listen intently and pay attention to every detail in their lessons. But the very things that make them great students get in the way of great dancing. They have a tendency to focus so much on all the minute details that they don\u2019t let go\u00a0<\/em><em>and just dance. Every move is calculated. Every step they take goes through numerous mental filters and in this process, the dance itself can be lost. They may have a challenge expressing themselves because they are so busy thinking about the details.<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\"><strong>[6]<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dminlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-amiable.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18870 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dminlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-amiable.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-amiable.jpg 275w, https:\/\/blogs.georgefox.edu\/dlgp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/blog-amiable-150x152.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/a>Amiables<\/em><\/strong><em> tend to be more people-oriented than task-oriented and care deeply about being appreciated. They may be quite artistic and can show incredible natural ability on the dance floor. They are cautious, taking time to build trust in their partners, but once that trust is there they can be\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0terrific dancers. They are technical, but only to a point.
