Of course there is good food and as always an adventure. \u00a0We went to see Phantom of the Opera.\u00a0 A classic show that the week we were in London was hitting the 30-year mark.\u00a0 Taking friends to see something that influenced me as a young man was priceless.\u00a0\u00a0 The dinner at Chop was a really intimate conversation about life and one that I will not forget.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers and Conversations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10505\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr. Glenn Williams<\/em><\/strong> willingness to spend time with us in our journey is so valuable.\u00a0 He allows us to spend as much time with him as we can.\u00a0 We walked and talked every single morning and spent a lot of time talking about our work and life.\u00a0 This makes the journey with Portland Seminary incredibly valuable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Last-Import-1-of-48-27.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10515\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Last-Import-1-of-48-27-249x300.jpg\" alt=\"Last Import - 1 of 48 (27)\" width=\"249\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr.\u00a0 Martyn Percy and his wife Dr. Emma<\/em><\/strong> allowed us to be in their personal life as well as their professional life.\u00a0 This access is not available to everyone.\u00a0 The opportunities they afforded us of touring the deanery and their own personal garden was extraordinary but the viewing of the King James translation volume was above and beyond. From their conversation I had a few quotes and take-away that was inspiring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr. Martyn Percy &#8220;Quotes&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m not interested in getting more bums in pews but getting bums off the pew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you occupied with God? Our primary calling is to be fully occupied with God\u2019s calling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much God is inside of you and they want that out of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He challenged my way of thinking and he also brought up the importance of language.\u00a0\u00a0 How we communicate way not always be with words.\u00a0 It might have to do with touch and might have to do with the knowledge of just how much our presence is needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr. Emma Percy &#8220;Quotes&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u201cWe must have the capacity to make and keep promises.\u00a0 Trust is a necessity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften we trespass on each other.\u00a0 We need the capacity of forgiveness, not to put up a no<\/p>\n<p>trespassing sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her best illustration was about the fridge.<\/p>\n<p>The food is in the fridge.<\/p>\n<p>Keep a full fridge and needs to have a good mixture of the stuff that they like.<\/p>\n<p>The fridge need a lot of things to sink their teeth in.<\/p>\n<p>Mature faith\u2026 comes from having a full fridge so they get something out of the service.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these brilliant communicators engaged the audience with masterful storytelling and then practical illustrations that could be taken to real life.\u00a0\u00a0 The time spend with them was priceless.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/35.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-10508\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/35-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"35\" width=\"357\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christ Church and Oxford<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having access to the whole campus of Christ Church was a once in a lifetime opportunity.\u00a0 The history that is so rich and full and then the opportunities to attend the events that take place in the cathedral were inspiring.\u00a0 The stories of those who shaped the faith and the future of Oxford were inspiring and made me want to know even more.\u00a0 The library with the hand written notes that were a part of the King James will be something that is permanently engraved in my mind.\u00a0\u00a0 Looking out the window that Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland from was just part of the history that others may never get to see, touch and experience.\u00a0 The thing that stood out the most to me and it is what we have been reading about this semester is the humility and humbleness of the leader.\u00a0\u00a0 Great leaders take others on the journey with them and I believe that we have been afforded a great opportunity by some great leaders.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/56.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10510\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/56-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"56\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Semester Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From <em>Good to Great<\/em> by Jim Collins to <em>Open Leadership<\/em> by Charlene Li, we have been challenged, to think with openness and clarity, to become the best that we can be.\u00a0\u00a0 The introduction of <em>Sapiens<\/em> at the end challenged us to see how the \u201cworld\u201d sees life and then discover how to communicate to those who might have a belief system different than ours.\u00a0 The conversations that have taken place surrounding all of the reading this semester has been challenging but has also helped to bring focus.\u00a0 Focus is so important in developing a global focus on leadership. \u00a0Dr. Jason Clark has moved us further along this leadership journey by challenging our abilities to write and to produce work that is on the doctoral level. \u00a0\u00a0His words in London were mirroring the words of C.S.
