My, oh my, what would my parents think of me now. I am in LONDON!<\/p>\n<p>My Cohorts are a hoot! (\u201cin figure 1\u201d) We blend well and support each other. We even named ourselves \u201cTHE SEVENS.\u201d Seven represents completeness and perfection. My mentors and the Seminary leaders demonstrate the heart and love of Jesus by mingling with us daily. (\u201cin figure 2\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>London and Oxford were my &#8220;cup of tea!&#8221; \u00a0We aged beautifully; a little worn but till strong; have a strong and powerful history, and have a welcoming spirit. Transportation was challenging at times but fun most of the time. (\u201cin figure 6\u201d) A few of those presentations left a watermark on my life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/LONDON-LECTURES-COLAGE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10460 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/LONDON-LECTURES-COLAGE-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"LONDON LECTURES COLAGE\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Figure 6. GLP cohorts and I listening intensively to the lecturers. The &#8220;before lectures I was fresh and excited. The &#8220;after lectures&#8221; I was tired and overloaded with information<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since I manage a non-profit, I appreciated Steve Chalke\u2019s personal story on how his passion resulted in his mission. He said, \u201cYour mission would expand when you are serving the people\u2019s needs; partner with others of the same interest or those who support your interest.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0 His points were:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have to maintain Ethos values which will keep a business running and valuing the people. A nonprofit requires:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A decent governance<\/li>\n<li>Theology and ethos team<\/li>\n<li>Social enterprise \u2013 business, donations, volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Need to be entrepreneurial<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Non-profit communication terms are different. I.e. The term &#8216;blessings&#8217; convert to the term &#8216;partnerships&#8217;; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 term &#8216;ministry&#8217; converts to the term &#8216;wellbeing.'&#8221;<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Shawn Holtzclaw paralleled Steve\u2019s views during his \u201cApplying For-profit principles in a Nonprofit World\u201d presentation. They both spoke on business awareness. A few of his points were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Effective at achieving results,<\/li>\n<li>Hope is not a strategy,<\/li>\n<li>Experienced Talent is a Must,<\/li>\n<li>You must combine the business aspect of operating a nonprofit with the mission you were assigned to perform.&#8221; <a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Business awareness would result from one applying critical thinking. Authors Elder and Paul, stated that \u201cCritical thinking is the art of analyzing, evaluating, and thinking with a view to improving it.\u201d <a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-09-26-16.02.15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10467 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dminlgp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-09-26-16.02.15-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"2016-09-26 16.02.15\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Figure 7. David Male spoke on serving the unchurched, saying the \u201cchurch is multi-culture, there needs to be a fresh expression in the form of church for our changing culture; and we are making disciples of Jesus rather than doing discipleship.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> Editors Grenz and Olson said, \u201cTheological reflection should encourage one toward spirituality and discipleship.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a>\u00a0 Dr. Martyn Perry said, \u201cthe church must make room for those who don\u2019t fit; a leader should possess the qualities of patience, empathy, don\u2019t be afraid, and have excellent communication skills.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a>\u00a0 (&#8220;in figure 7&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>The Cohort5 presentations were: Nick Martineau&#8217;s shared the process of succeeding the founder of the church. He referenced it to \u201cthe act as a father giving away his daughter in marriage. It can bring on the anxiety of losing rather than gaining, even though it&#8217;s a wonder event.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn8\" name=\"_ftnref8\">[8]<\/a> My church went through the passing of the baton 11 years ago. Phil Struckmeyer\u2019s discussed \u201cMaking the Word a Better Place&#8221; reflecting on the racial division under the realm of divided by faith. He stated, \u201cwhite evangelicals believing in white privilege even though it&#8217;s not biblical; \u00a0he stated that silence is violence.&#8221;<a href=\"#_ftn9\" name=\"_ftnref9\">[9]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At Oxford our speakers were: \u00a0Dr. Mark Chapman spoke on Oxford Theology he stated \u201cthat the curriculum needs to be broad. \u00a0Ask: what kind of character do you want to form?\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn10\" name=\"_ftnref10\">[10]<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0I believe the views of Author Adler should be considered in developing an effective curriculum, \u201cTaking the reader from how they learned to read as a child to the progressive stage of where they are now and how to adapt to a method of reading style that effectively works for the reader.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn11\" name=\"_ftnref11\">[11]<\/a>\u00a0 Dr. Emma Percy reflected on the leadership in a church, sharing \u201cministry does not fit the module of work, it is a mixture of laboring and action; some of a minister\u2019s duties were similar to motherhood, and Apostle Paul stated he was breastfeeding.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn12\" name=\"_ftnref12\">[12]<\/a> Dr. Cathy Ross spoke on the smell of the sheep, saying \u201cthere\u2019s no such thing as pure gospel; it\u2019s embodied in our culture. The mission is about finding out what God is already doing and join in.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn13\" name=\"_ftnref13\">[13]<\/a>\u00a0 On the views of culture, Author Elliott said, \u201cHis research directed him to five social theory themes. One of them was the relation between human action and social structure.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn14\" name=\"_ftnref14\">[14]<\/a> As a\u00a0ministry leader, we need to study the community we serve. My pastor Dr. Reverend Marcus D. Cosby often said, \u201cAs a pastor, the shepherd should smell like his sheep.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn15\" name=\"_ftnref15\">[15]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRACTICE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had been planting a seed in the minds of the Board preparing them for the harvest. I attended a Fundraising conference to improve and implement skills to increase our donors. In that workshop, the speaker dropped a word bomb \u201cspeak the language.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn16\" name=\"_ftnref16\">[16]<\/a> The same term used by Steve Chalke in London. She stated that \u201cnonprofits have a special language (terminology) different from corporations and to be successful, and we need to use them.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn17\" name=\"_ftnref17\">[17]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I invited a nonprofit consultant to our October meeting.to speak with us about board governance and grant writing. Her presentation and review of our organization were powerful and effective. I made an executive decision to hire her to help get our corporate document in order so that we can begin our journey toward organization stability and effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONCLUSION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The London Advance experience rebirthed my courage to travel abroad. I have been idle in my travels since 2008. The books I have read reignited my desire to want to know more. The weekly synchronized chats were awesome.
