George Fox welcomes Notre Dame’s Donald Drakeman to speak on the future of medicine March 8

The distinguished research professor and cofounder of two multi-billion-dollar companies is latest guest of school’s William Penn Honors Program

NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University’s William Penn Honors Program invites the public to a free lecture, “Death Sentence for the Life Sciences? The Humanities and the Future of Medicine,” presented by guest Donald L. Drakeman on Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 102 of the school’s Edwards-Holman Science Center. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drakeman is a venture partner at Advent Life Sciences, a distinguished research professor in the Constitutional Studies Program at Notre Dame, and a fellow in health management at the University of Cambridge. Formerly, as an entrepreneur and chief executive in the biotechnology industry, he cofounded Medarex Inc. and Genmab A/S, both of which grew to be multi-billion-dollar companies. Drakeman has overseen the progression of numerous innovative medical products for cancer, infectious disease and inflammation from research concept to clinical trials.

He holds an AB from Dartmouth College, a JD from Columbia University and a PhD in the humanities from Princeton University, where he has served as a member of the faculty.

A reception for those interested in learning more about the William Penn Honors Program will be held immediately following the lecture. Program representatives will be in attendance.
