Family Weekend events include athletic contests, academic lectures, a campus tour, a tailgate party, a concert and a theatrical performance

NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University invites families of current students to visit campus for a weekend of activities that include athletic contests, a tailgate party, music performances, a campus tour and academic lectures Oct. 27-29.

Though families are welcome to visit their student any time during the academic year, this weekend is set aside for families and students to reconnect and have fun together.

The event begins on Friday with a series of academic lectures; a parent reception with President Robin Baker; a parent networking open house hosted by the school’s IDEA Center; a men’s soccer game against Whitworth; a Family Weekend concert featuring a combination of vocal and instrumental ensembles; and a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the university’s theatre department.

Saturday’s schedule includes a football game against Northwest Conference opponent Lewis & Clark at 2:30 p.m. For the first time in program history, the Bruins are ranked among the nation’s top 25 in national polls.

The day will also include a tailgate party at 11:30 a.m.; morning and afternoon campus tours that highlight how Scripture has impacted the meaning behind the places and buildings across campus; a Family Weekend dinner at 5 p.m.; and another performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The day concludes with a movie night for high school-age siblings of current George Fox students.

The weekend concludes with a breakfast on Sunday morning and men’s and women’s soccer games against Whitman that afternoon.
