The Newberg, Ore., school boast a record 2,414 traditional undergraduates and matches its record total of 628 incoming freshmen

NEWBERG, Ore. – A record number of traditional undergraduate students has propelled George Fox University past the 4,000-student mark for a second straight year, with 4,080 students enrolling in the Newberg, Oregon-based institution this fall.

Bolstered by the arrival of 628 freshmen – a number that matched last year’s record total – and the largest traditional undergraduate enrollment in school history (2,414), George Fox broke the 4,000-student barrier again after topping the mark for the first time in its 125th anniversary year last fall. Rounding out the university’s student body are 1,382 graduate and continuing education students and 284 adult degree program students.

Of the 628 incoming freshmen, 121 are first-generation college students and 173 – or more than a third – are students of color. The school has made concerted efforts to further diversify its population in recent years, as now about one-third of the student body is made up of ethnic minorities – tripling the school’s figure of 10 percent in 2005.

Overall, George Fox has grown significantly in recent years, with total enrollment increasing more than seven-fold since 1986, when 549 students attended.

Looking ahead, undergraduate students interested in enrolling at George Fox for the 2018-19 academic year are encouraged to apply early. Those who apply by the university’s early action deadline of Nov. 1 will not be charged the $40 application fee. Also, those who complete the application process by that date will be eligible for invitation to the university’s Scholarship Competition Feb. 1-2 or Feb. 8-9, 2018. Visit apply.georgefox.edu to begin the application process.

Fall semester for traditional undergraduates began on Monday, Aug. 28. The university determines official enrollment based upon students registered on the 10th day of classes.
