George Fox University invites alumni, families to campus celebrations in October

Homecoming and Family Weekend events scheduled Oct. 9-10 and Oct. 30-31

NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University will host two celebrations in October, inviting all alumni to its Newberg, Ore., campus for homecoming festivities Oct. 9-10, and all families of students for Family Weekend at the end of the month, Oct. 30-31.

Homecoming will include reunions for the classes of 2005, 1995, 1990, 1985, 1975, 1955 and 1945; a tailgate party followed by a football game against Lewis & Clark College on Saturday; a Friday jazz concert; a campus tour; a tour of the construction site of the new dining hall facility; a 5K “Foxtrot Run” on Saturday; an Alumni & Sports Hall of Fame Awards event; and an “Oral History Booth” event that will allow visitors to share fond memories of their time at George Fox.

Class reunions for the 10- through 40-year groups will take place at a tailgate lunch in the Bauman Auditorium parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Reunions for the classes of 1965 and before will be during a “Classic Bruins Supper” beginning at 5 p.m. Friday in the Cap and Gown Room.

Saturday’s alumni awards event will recognize the 2015 Honored Alumni Award recipients: Outstanding Alumna Rae Casey (1998, MA, 2001) and Christian Service Award honorees Bob Hadlock (1970) and Camille Hadlock. Also recognized will be Sports Hall of Fame inductees Calvin P. Ferguson (1968), Jonathan Moore (1993), Jon Wright (1993), Steve Wilhite (1963) and the 2004-05 women’s basketball team. The Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame Awards will be presented at a banquet scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chehalem Cultural Center, 415 E. Sheridan St., in Newberg.

Three weeks later, on Oct. 30-31, families of students are invited to events that include a Family Weekend Dinner at 5 p.m. Friday; a “Family Adventure” scavenger hunt; a theatre production of Moliere’s Tartuffe both nights; a fall music department concert on Friday night; an academic open house event on Saturday; a tailgate party and football game against Linfield College on Saturday; and a men’s soccer game against the University of Puget Sound.
