NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University will host the Worcester Cathedral Choir, from Worcester, England, for an evensong service and concert on Monday, April 6. Currently on tour throughout the Pacific Northwest, this will be the choir’s only stop in the Portland area.

The evensong service begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium on the Newberg campus, followed by an 8:15 p.m. concert. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Students and community members can contact Amy Lorenz for ticket information at 503-554-2134 or alorenz@georgefox.edu. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Master-of-the-Choristers and Cathedral Organist Adrian Lucas, the choir consists of 34 choristers. The choir’s primary purpose is to sing the daily services in the Worcester Cathedral. This continues a tradition of daily worship that has taken place at the cathedral since the 1400s. The choir has toured throughout Western Europe, and was the first choir to tour South Africa after the abolition of apartheid.

The current tour is the fifth in the United States, although the first in the Pacific Northwest. For more information on Worcester Cathedral and the Worcester Cathedral Choir, visit worcestercathedral.co.uk. For more information on this event, visit georgefox.edu/worcester-cathedral.

The concert is being made possible in part by the patronage of André and Gail Iseli, members of the George Fox University Board of Trustees.
