Students Chosen for George Fox University’s 2001-02 Chapel Band
September 7th, 2001
NEWBERG, Ore.–The members of the 2001-02 Chapel Band at George Fox University’s Newberg campus began their musical outreach with Fall Orientation Aug. 24, and they played for the first time in chapel services Aug. 27.
The Chapel Band has six members, all chosen during auditions last spring. Members perform in chapel services, in Sunday night’s student-led “Over the Edge,” worship gatherings, and at all-campus retreats and other opportunities.
Chosen as the band’s leader was returning member Jon Melot. Melot is a senior from Poway, Calif., majoring in organizational communications.
Erica Quessenberry and Karen Glover were selected as the two vocalists. Quessenberry is a junior from Bellingham, Wash., majoring in history. Glover is from Snohomish, Wash., and is a senior business management major.
Chosen as bass guitar player was sophomore Ben Wilkinson, a business major from Glenallen, Alaska. Sophomore music major Ben Hawkins from Central Point, Ore., was selected for the drums.
Abbey Schmidt from Halfway, Ore., was chosen as pianist. Schmidt is a junior majoring in accounting and finance. Appointed as the band’s worship coordinator was Kyle Welstad, a sophomore Christian ministries major from Salem, Ore.
Melot says the band “desires to take the student body deeper into worship than they have ever been” and hopes students will gain a more intimate and personal experience with their Lord through worship. “It sounds simple,” he added. “But then, that’s what worship is.”
