Monthly Archives: January 2011

Part of Saturday's group poses for a photo on a Mt. Hood snowshoe trail. After a rainy start, the weather turned bright and sunny.

Experiential Ministries is a recently-formed organization that takes students into nature in order to experience the beauty of creation and the Creator. Paige Copenhaven, the Experiential Ministries Chaplain, led a group of students on a snowshoe adventure on Mount Hood on Saturday. During lunch, students shared how natural experiences had taught them lessons about God. Micah Schuler spoke about how detail God put into nature, right down to the design of tree bark, and Nick Largusa shared how inspiring it was to escape the busyness of every day life and enjoy the calm beauty of the forest.

It was a great day! Check out the video and photo slideshow below.

January 19, 2011

On the second day of the Spring Semester, we surprised students with a list of questions about Christmas break, what they learned the previous semester and what they were looking forward to. Here’s what they had to say.

Jimmy Brown’s Time-lapses

January 10, 2011

At almost any GFU event you’ll find CMCO major Jimmy Brown and his camera. By taking thousands of pictures over time, Jimmy documents the events in a very unique way: via time-lapse. Jimmy writes, “I enjoy time-lapse photography because it allows us to see parts of life that we normally can’t, because we’re too busy, or we’re not there, or we’re just not looking. It presents long processes or events in a time-frame that our bored, impatient minds can understand more easily – allowing us to see the nuances of slow change in a manner we can comprehend. It allows us to see the clouds boil, the shadows ooze, and the entire planet turn on its axis. But at the end of the day, I really just like time-lapse because it looks cool.”

Take a look at a few of Jimmy’s recent time-lapse videos below:
