Tilde operator

10 February, 2009 (13:18) | Google, Search Skills | By: kcoronado

When you find that you need to broaden your Web search you may find Google’s tilde operator to be helpful.   By using the tilde (~) operator with your search term(s) you will also be expanding your search to include synonyms and words with alternate endings.  For instance a search for ~travel will also find terms like traveler’s, traveler, tour, tourism, and vacation.  Make sure to place the tilde before the word and do not put a space in between the tilde and the word.  You can do this to more than one word in your search.

Thanks for the great reminder. I tend to get pretty lazy with how I do web searches sometimes–good reminder that there are tools that make searching more efficient/productive.
