Make plans to attend Fall Retreat Nov. 10-12 on the Oregon Coast

The theme for this year’s Fall Retreat is “Filled to the Measure,” inspired by Ephesians 3:19, where Paul says, “and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” We’ll spend the weekend learning from one another various ways to encounter the character of God and engage in spiritual growth. Many of your peers will be leading these sessions and are so excited to share with you.

We are so excited to be featuring artist Hannah Glaver as our guest musician to lead us in worship this weekend. Hannah is the worship pastor at Imago Dei Church and has recorded with music artist Liz Vice.

Fall Retreat is Nov. 10-12. What better time to escape from your ordinary, busy life and spend some time at Twin Rocks on the beautiful Oregon Coast with your friends? Registration is a non-refundable fee of $30.

Sign-ups will be in various locations around campus over the next two weeks. Look for us in the Bruin Den, Canyon Commons and after Chapel/Vespers. You can also register (paying by card) by visiting this link.

New Phone System Information

Over the last year, the university has moved to a new Cisco phone system. Please refer to this documentation for operating your new phone. The guide includes instruction on voicemail, transferring, call forwarding and conference calling.

Some general highlights:

  • You now need to dial “8” to get an outside line.
  • Long-distance codes are no longer needed except for international dialing.
  • Voicemail is now sent to your email as an audio recording.
  • Fax machines are still in transition and will continue to require “9” for an outside line and a long-distance code. As machines are converted over, a sign will be placed on the machine with instructions.

‘The Wineskin’ is now accepting submissions

The Wineskin is now open for submissions! As the literary and art magazine at George Fox University, we accept poetry, prose, photography and any 2D artwork. The Wineskin is a great way to get your art and writing published, as well as influence the George Fox community. This year, the best piece in each category will be awarded with an Amazon gift card.

The theme of this publication is “Seasons of Change.” There is no limit to the number of submissions. All prose should be 1,000 words or less. Go to this link to submit now!

Support PT’s trip to Africa by eating at Sandwich Express tomorrow

Come show your support for George Fox’s physical therapy program by grabbing some dinner at Sandwich Express in Newberg (next to Fred Meyer, at 901 Brutscher St., #B) tomorrow (Thursday). Proceeds will go toward our medical service trip to Ghana and Uganda next summer. Drop by Sandwich Express between 3 and 7:30 p.m. to participate.

Make plans to attend a concert or two (or three) this week

Looking for a fun evening of entertainment? Come out to any one of three concerts being held in Bauman Auditorium this week!

On Thursday, Nov. 2, the school’s Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Dick Elliott. Selections include pieces by Robert Shelton (Velocity), Gary Gilroy (Four Dance Episodes), John Williams (For the President’s Own) and Julie Giroux (Hymn for the Innocent). Admission is free.

Two days later, on Saturday, Nov. 4, a free Fall Choir Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m., featuring a selection of the school’s choirs.

The following evening, on Sunday, Nov. 5, a special Organ Hymn Festival Concert, featuring internationally known organist Dan Miller in addition to the university’s Brass Ensemble and Concert Choir, is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. Pieces scheduled to be performed include Holy, Holy, Holy, Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God Our Help in Ages Past, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, Be Thou My Vision, and I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.

Tickets for the Organ Hymn Festival are $5, with all proceeds going toward supporting the George Fox Auxiliary’s Student Scholarship Fund. Tickets may be purchased online at georgefox.edu/concerts.

Important info for home football game Saturday

Our last regular-season home football game is this Saturday against Pacific Lutheran! Join us at 1:15 p.m. for a pre-game ceremony to honor our senior football players, and then for the game at 2 p.m.

Bauman Parking Lot
Be sure to move your cars out of the Bauman parking lot and the tennis court parking lot on Friday evening. This space will be dedicated to football fan parking, activities and vendors on Saturday.

Entrances to the Game
There will be two entrances into the game and both are located in the Bauman parking lot, directly behind the stadium.

Wheeler Sports Center Closed
The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This means the basketball gym, racquetball courts and locker rooms will be closed. The Fitness Center will remain open for normal business hours, but you will need to enter through the hallway entrance located on the field level, toward the end of the building near the tennis courts. There will be security officers who will ask you where you are headed; just let them know that you are going to work out.

Bauman Walkway
The sidewalk located between the football stadium and Bauman will be closed. Please walk around the building and do not move the barricade.

Circle Parking Lot
The circle parking lot near Wheeler will be closed for the day. This space is reserved for officials to park in. Officials will arrive as early as 10 a.m.

Sideline Passes
No one will be granted field access without a sideline pass. Sideline passes are issued to those who are required to work and/or have official business during the game.

Tickets
Students and staff can show their ID cards at the gate to get into the game free of charge. Additional tickets can be purchased online or at the gate by visiting this page.

Ephesians study continues tonight at Vespers

Happy November, Bruins! Can you believe it’s week 10 of the semester? Neither can we!

We are still in the book of Ephesians in Vespers and will be going through the second half of Chapter 5 this week. Come enjoy a sweet time of fellowship and worship with your fellow classmates and coworkers. We encourage you to use time to slow down from your busy schedules and to lean into a space of rest.

Training held this Sunday for Foster Parents Night Out volunteers

Interested in volunteering on a monthly basis mentoring kids and teens in foster care? Want to help give their foster parents a night off? Volunteer with Foster Parents Night Out (FPNO).

These events happen on a monthly basis from 4 to 8 p.m. at Church on the Hill in McMinnville. Training is coming up this Sunday, Nov. 4, at Columbia River Foursquare Church in St. Helens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Interested in Chinese culture? Consider joining study tour

Are you interested in China and Chinese culture?

The Internationalization Consortium invites you to participate in the Winter 2018 Rising Star Study Tour from Jan. 7-20, 2018, in Beijing, China. Forty American students, along with students and faculty members from Chinese higher vocational colleges, will participate. Activities will include workshops on student artistic creation and design, site visits and cultural experiences.

The application deadline for this winter study tour is Friday, Nov. 10, 2017.

Short comedy film hosts auditions this week
