Campus planning for Monday’s eclipse

George Fox will be open Monday, Aug. 21 during the eclipse. Employees may take up to 30 minutes for eclipse viewing without taking personal time off. Please work out the details with your supervisor. Viewing the eclipse can cause eye damage. Take safety precautions and wear approved solar filters or glasses.

Traffic on state highways on the day of the eclipse is expected to be heavy. Employees who are concerned about their commute may request permission from their supervisors to work an alternate schedule or to work from home. Some students will be checking in on Monday morning. Some employees will be providing essential services and will not be eligible to work from home. For more information on travel on the day of the eclipse, see the ODOT website.

Senior administrative staff will monitor the traffic on the morning of the eclipse. If traffic in the region becomes gridlocked, an emergency closure notice would be sent out by 6:30 a.m. You may check the university’s FlashAlert webpage or sign up for alerts to be sent your mobile phone.
