With heat wave coming, take precautions to stay cool

Monday, July 31st, 2017

Have you seen the weather forecast? Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees the middle part of this week, so Plant Services recommends you take precautions to ensure your office or living area doesn’t get too hot.

During the day, keep your windows and blinds closed. This will prevent your space from heating to the outside temperature. Temperatures are only supposed to get to about 70 degrees at night, so leaving your windows open overnight may not help cool things down. Use your best judgement to determine if doing so helps your situation.

Employees: If you are experiencing issues with your building’s air conditioning, please call Plant Services immediately.

Questions? Contact Dixie Downey at ddowney@georgefox.edu or ext. 2016.

Volunteers needed for Fiesta Mexicana event this weekend

Monday, July 31st, 2017

The Fiesta Mexicana is this weekend, Aug. 4-6, in Woodburn! For a second straight year George Fox will have a booth at the event, and we are looking for volunteers to help staff it! This is the 54th year of the fiesta and a wonderful opportunity for you to see and experience the Latino community from where many of our students come.

The shifts are easy, as you get to enjoy talking to people, give away George Fox bling and see some great soccer, dance and other fun activities. You will not be alone, as one person from the diversity committee will be there as well, and we are matching Spanish speakers with non-Spanish speakers. That’s just an extra bonus, as most people speak English.

The fiesta runs Friday from 1 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (the parade starts earlier) and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..

If you can volunteer any time at all (even one to two hours), please contact Rebecca Valdovinos at rvaldovinos@georgefox.edu.

Thank you!

Register now for the last of the residential parking permits

Monday, July 31st, 2017

Residential students: If you have yet to register your vehicle, please do so right away, as the residential parking permits are going fast! Please allow up to two weeks for them to arrive to the mailing address you indicated. If you are arriving early for fall sports, the honors program, ASC, RA training etc., please be sure to use your George Fox address and mailbox number so your permit will arrive here when you do!

Commuters: The registration portal is ready and waiting for your vehicle registration! Please use either your George Fox mailing address and box number or the address that you will commute from as your “mailing address,” as it is getting to be too late to mail them to a home address if you don’t live locally. Please allow up to two weeks for your parking permit to arrive.
