Friendship House looking for residents

Friday, June 30th, 2017

Are you a George Fox undergraduate or graduate student looking for a place to live this year? Friendship House Newberg might be the perfect house for you. It’s just 10 blocks from campus and newly remodeled.

If you have a heart for friendship and community with the people you live with, Friendship House could be the right fit. We have the vision of creating community both within the home and in the greater George Fox and Newberg communities.

At Friendship House, you’ll have your own bedroom with a half bath, as well as a shared master bathroom, and newly remodeled kitchen and living room. You’ll also have the opportunity to live alongside two individuals with developmental disabilities who are engaged in the Newberg community.

The vision of Friendship House is to create friendships and to build bridges between individuals with disabilities and the community. Contact Sondra Strong at 503-201-8321 or email fhnewberg@gmail.com to find out more. Hurry to secure your room!

Important Vehicle Registration Information

Thursday, June 29th, 2017

Parking can be a challenge on the Newberg campus. Taking the construction of the new student activity center and student input into consideration, the university is implementing the following changes to improve the parking situation for all students (undergraduate and graduate; residential and commuter) on the Newberg campus.

  • By the time school starts in August, we will have spent more than $750,000 adding 245 parking spaces, and we have opened up more street parking within our four border streets.
  • We are increasing the number of parking permit types (linked to specific locations), which should reduce the need to hunt through various lots to find parking.
  • Residential parking lots will not be oversold.
  • Graduate commuters are gaining three dedicated lots near the Roberts Center.
    a. Graduate students on the Newberg campus will now be automatically charged the parking registration on their student account, but they will still need to go online and register their cars to receive their permit.
    b. If a graduate student walks or rides a bike to campus, please contact Security Services to have the registration fee removed from your account.
  • There is now a free permit option for those interested in saving money by parking in the new lot at the Austin Field (near the Austin Sports Complex across from Northside Church).
  • Residential parking registration will be opened, giving priority to seniority. Registration for parking permits will open at 9 a.m. according to the following schedule:
    Seniors – July 5
    Juniors – July 12
    Sophomores – July 19
    Freshmen – July 26
  • Graduate students and commuters may register any time after July 5 regardless of class status.

As always, we strongly recommend residential students not bring a car to campus. Leaving your car at home can easily save $1,000 per year; there’s a car-share program on campus through Enterprise Rent-A-Car. There are almost always others who can provide a ride when needed.

For more information, please check out the parking website here.

University automates expense process with Concur Expense beginning July 5

Tuesday, June 27th, 2017

As a part of our strategy to increase efficiency and streamline our Finance and business processes, we have automated the entire expense process using Concur Expense.

For our university, Concur will allow us to:

  • Create a better expense reimbursement process for employees
  • Drive expense and travel policy compliance
  • Gain better visibility to travel and expense spending
  • Eliminate the need to collect, manage and store paper receipts

For our employees, Concur will:

  • Reduce the time spent and minimize the hassle of completing the expense process
  • Allow on-the-go capabilities through user friendly mobile applications
  • Provide pre-populated expense reports
  • Require fewer key strokes to request reimbursement

Our Finance and IT teams investigated many solutions. Concur Expense closely matches our business needs. We will go live with Concur Expense on July 5, 2017.

Automating the entire expense process from both a web and mobile standpoint is an important step in helping improve our processes. We are excited about our new process and ask each of you to support this change and use Concur Expense. There will be an email sent out on July 5 for the next step in this process. If you have questions, contact Matt Hammar at mhammar@georgefox.edu.

Sincerely,
Finance/Purchasing/IT

Thursday, June 22nd, 2017

They are here! Mail Services has the limited-edition first-class “Eclipse” stamps. These stamps are really cool! They are heat sensitive, so when you press your finger onto the stamp, the heat will cause the moon to show on the stamp. Once the heat cools down, the eclipse will reappear.

There are 16 stamps per sheet, and the cost is $7.84. These stamps will not last long, so get a piece of history while supplies last!

Thanks,
Mail Services
